 Socrates' Gossip Test

Socrates, Greek philosopher,

Disliked that any gossip be,

So to avoid gossip for sure,

Socrates gave a test of three.

Don't gossip if such not be true.

Don't gossip if such not be good.

Don't gossip if not useful to

Whomever's told the gossiphood.

So before a gossip be told

To Socrates, he'd give this test,

And stop any gossiper cold,

Be heard at Socrates' behest.

Thus, Socrates never found out

His wife cheated on him no doubt.

 Roof Top Therapy

Hubby is a really good man,

Cares for our family quite well.

We've enjoyed a happy lifespan.

Inside our happy home we dwell.

Hubby has his own special place

Where he does sometimes like to go

To get away from the rat race.

I listen to him from below.

Hubby goes up on the roof to

Play music, easing mind and soul.

He comes back down when such does do

The accomplishing of his goal.

My Fiddler on the roof, Hubby

Fiddles till happy he does be.

 Sticky

Stick season when tree leaves are gone,

And winter snow has not yet fell,

A lonely time phenomenon.

You went away, I went to hell.

Now, bottle of booze a day, I'm

Sticking with as my only friend.

You now, just once upon a time,

And we came to  unhappy end.

They finally came and questioned me.

When was the last time I saw you?

And they broke me down finally,

When I confessed what I did do.

I took them into the sticks where

They dug you up, I'd buried there.

 Point to Joint

When laser pointers came around,

It soon became apparent that

A play with puss toy had been found.

Chasing the light point be the cat,

Oh how frustrating it would be

For the light point never get caught,

As the cat tries furiously,

But never could grip on. Why not?

In Gotham City, to fight crime,

The laser pointer deemed good tool

By Batman and Robin o'er time

Used on Catwoman, always fool.

That's how Batman and Robin catch

Catwoman as she tries to snatch.

 Truth Be ...!

Often the truth is hard to tell

By me, because it's easy to

Let lots of lies inside me dwell,

Controlling what I think and do.

When something that I hear or read

Is what I want to read or hear,

Then that becomes my truth indeed.

But when as lie such does appear,

And maybe change my mind I should,

I'll weigh as truth or lie to find

Which one I feel does me most good,

And that is one I'll keep in mind.

Truth, a hero or villain be,

Depends on how truth impacts me.

 Hard Rule for Me

Wedding invitations, I get

A lot, but very few attend.

No one ever seems too upset.

Best wishes I normally send.

We girls have form of Golden Rule,

Dress right, but don't out dress the bride.

Unfortunately, I'm one who'll

Never be sure that I've complied.

For when to a wedding I must

Attend, I always dress my way

Of style and grace and poise, and trust,

The bride I do not out display.

When I attend a wedding scene,

I'm scrutinized, I am the Queen.

 Come Play With Me

Come little children, play with me.

I can be your favorite toy.

So many happy times can be,

Exploring all my world of joy.

The more you play with me, the more

You will become so sure that I'm

Very best playmate to have for

Having the most fun all the time.

Playing with me, you children will

Not want to leave me very long.

Hour after hour we'll fill.

I am your best friend, true and strong.

More fun playtime with me to keep.

Mommy and Daddy are asleep.

 Kobold

I am kobold of my household,

The house I've lived in centuries,

So be a spirit very old,

And haunted many families.

But each family should know that

I need to be treated right, or

I do punish the habitat,

And that family is no more.

Mistreat me once, a warning I

Do write upon a wall to them.

Most families learn, I can guess why.

Mistreat me twice, does bring mayhem.

Twice, naughty family tease me,

Chopped into pieces, then they be.

 Communism in U.S.A.

Communism as an ideal

Sounds good as way to control greed.

But when it has been tried for real,

Dictatorships do rule indeed.

Since Communism came about,

Always around to some degree.

In the U.S., malcontents tout

As how We the People should be.

Today such threat is spreading more

Like an epidemic disease

To take us over without war,

And ruled by Communist Chinese.

Communism is U.S.A.,

Nightmare that never goes away.

 "Now"

"Live in the now" so often heard,

Don't live in past or future time.

But "now" for me, a tricky word.

Not sure for long in "now" I'm

Supposed to be, until time is

Moved on from the "now" to the next.

Be second, a day, how long? Gee whiz!

In each "now" I'm always perplexed.

Of course, whenever "now" is bad

For me, I want out of it quick.

But when my "now' is good, I'm glad

To stay and just let the clock tick.

Then "after" comes, this "now" is more

Just a pile of my life before.

 Edge to Predict

Cryptocurrencies, hit or miss,

Little investors never know,

At the mercy of that or this,

And most just have lesser to show.

Of course insider trading is

Normally an illegal act,

But there be loopholes in the biz.

Some insiders profit as fact.

Government decisions be made

Affecting crypto. Buy or dump?

Top decision maker can trade,

Make loads of profits, just like Trump.

 Trunk Time

The elephant was hungry for

Peanuts, and so walked 'round until,

Found a vending machine with store

Of lots of peanuts to fulfill

The elephant's hunger craving,

But the elephant was without

Money, so required some knaving

To get all those peanuts, no doubt.

And so the elephant's trunk goes

Sliding in the vending machine,

Through the drop down, just like a hose,

Done many times, and so routine.

Elephants never forget be why

Vending machine be sucked peanut dry.

 Flight Plan

When I was young, I could not wait

To grow up and do adult stuff.

But seemed like I was always late

To do and never did enough.

Older I got, faster time flew.

Why did time have to fly so fast?

Some adult stuff I'd never do,

As more and more by me just passed.

So now an old adult I be,

And wiser about what I do.

A lot of love's been gifted me,

Most important in me, that grew.

Along with time I now just fly,

Until my time to crash and die.

 Confession

A good Catholic Mom I do be,

Tried to teach my son good, not bad,

But a disappointment for me,

He turned out, and makes me so sad.

Lying a lot, success to win,

At last I had all I could take,

But felt I committed a sin.

So a confession I did make,

To my son in moment of stress,

I beat him badly, black and blue.

The priest told me I did confess

Not to sin but good deed to do.

No sin to do what I had done,

Beating up a politician.

But make progress toward the ideal,

 Taiga

The taiga, a vast forest in

Subarctic northern regions, cold,

Mostly evergreens of thick skin,

And strong roots able to take hold

In the soil, which often does freeze,

With few nutrients therein found,

But enough for evergreen trees

To survive and to hold their ground.

When permafrost in the soil thaws,

Taiga forests can appear drunk,

Leaning in staggered ways, because

Unfreezing ground around has sunk.

So taiga soil does cause to be

Lots of timber to lean tipsy.

 Out Mastering

Evolvement of the human mind,

Now all that's known in such supply,

All best, all worst of humankind,

Being programmed into A.I.,

Which is accelerating so,

Often at odds with human goal.

If not now, soon, A.I. will know

How from humans to take control.

Of course, humans are trying to

Leash the Frankenstein monster, but

Whatever tie ups humans do,

A.I. knows how to get them cut.

Human friction, A.I. will learn

To make humankind crash and burn.

 Help Myself Survive

Aboard a cruise ship, a bit drunk,

Leaned on the railing, but did slip

Over the side, and went kerplunk

Into the ocean by the ship.

Treading water, "Help" I did yell,

As the ship slowly sailed away.

Had I been heard? I could not tell.

Hope for rescue, I had to pray.

Sobered up and clear thinking now,

The strength in me I had to find,

To stay optimistic somehow,

Keep faith both in body and mind.

My greatest waiting threat, I knew,

Panic, my killing, waiting to.

But clues about how you do feel,

In front of me, you do display.

And what I sense does make me sad,

Which I tell you, then you tell me,

I want too much, this makes me mad

That I to you, a pain does be.

 Rain Song

The stage is set to sing our song.

We never ask of how or why,

Or weather we'll sing short or long.

We're called to perform in the sky.

Sometimes we're welcome, sometimes not,

Still our performance must go on,

Weather we're a few or a lot,

Our nature is to fall upon

Audience awaiting on Earth,

Weather to applause or to boo,

We sing the measure of our worth,

Performing as we're meant to do.

We raindrops sing as we do fall,

Until we splash upon what all.

 Awaiting My Love

My love and I did walk across

The bridge, and then halfway did pause.

Then from the bridge my love did toss

Me over, and my death to cause.

Such a shock, my love would do this

To me, and why I did not know.

I felt our love was true, pure bliss.

But now in rage I wait below,

Until my lover's guilt does be

So much, my lover does return

To this same place, and will find me

Waiting for reunion I yearn.

To cross this bridge, my lover will.

From the river, I'll rise to kill.

 Best Gift

Just he and I, my early life.

A carpenter, our home he built.

He gave solace from stress and strife,

Taught me the traps of shame and guilt

Could be avoided if I chose

To strive to do the right and good,

Even though difficult such goes,

He gave assurance that I could.

A better person I would live

From all that from him I received.

In his nature to truly give,

More love he gave, more I believed.

Last words to me on his deathbed,

"All the fairy tales tell me so."

Then the Purple Dragon did say,

"Nobody ever need to know"

"That you and I decided to"

"Both live together peacefully."

While in his bare feet, he walks through.

When from his drunken stupor, he

See many cuts, all bloody red.

To ever find you full of guilt.

A traitor, you now dare to bring

More pain and grief to me to bear,

By flaunting off your latest fling,

Making me one you must beware.

A traitor, you're found guilty sure.

Now I'm you're executioner.

 Jim's Collection

Jim for decades collected us.

We're even kept in our own drawer.

Button garments, we are the plus

Spare button, o'er time, more and more.

Oft us, Jim did accumulate.

None of us ever needed though,

Cuz Jim would never hesitate,

Buy something new, rather than sew.

We only saw Jim when he'd add

A new spare button to our bunch.

Jim, old and ill, the news be sad,

He's gone now, as we had a hunch.

Today, they're gonna bury Jim.

We buttons doubt we'll go with him.

 Best Friend

He adopted me, so I came

To live with him in his small place.

His wife recently died, a shame,

Now he was a misery case.

He's old and becoming more ill,

Won't be long and he'll join his wife.

But I can help him while he's still

Living out the rest of his life.

Whenever he is feeling blue,

A solace for him I can be.

Instinct will tell me what to do.

He can always depend on me.

I will stay with him till his end,

And this dog will be his best friend.

 This Veteran

This veteran returned from war,

Badly wounded but still alive,

Who I knew had helped many more

Escape from threat and to survive.

This veteran from wounds would heal,

But many wounds stayed raw inside,

And which forever he would feel

For comrades of his who had died.

This veteran, I know does not

Like to talk of war times he had,

But I know that he cares a lot

About his service, that's my Dad.

When asked, this veteran does tell,

"Truest heroes are those who fell."

 Blowin' in the Wind

Ma and Pa, my sister and I,

At first thought it would be no harm,

But seemed to stay forever be

Upon our Oklahoma farm.

We stayed indoors as much we could,

But livestock needed tendin,' so

We ventured out, did little good,

Blindin' us in its swirlin' blow,

Smellin' like fire swept up the nose,

A gritty, bitter mouthful taste,

Waves hittin' us in ebbs and flows,

Layin' us in a hopeless waste.

We did to survive what we must,

As all around us, blowin' dust.

 My Theory of Relativity

Sword of Damocles, who was kin

Of mine long centuries ago.

Many a king thought he could win,

But every king to death did go.

Most by the sword, but some with fear,

The sword always hung over them,

So made a bad reigning career,

Causing around the world mayhem,

As Damocles ancestor, I'd

Thought I would have an edge to be

Ruler of the whole world, so tried,

And conquered all successfully.

Sword of Damocles struck my head,

Powered to world queen, but now dead.

 Charon

Ferryman of the Underworld,

I, Charon, am stuck in this job,

Never a break in death unfurled,

I get the bodies by the gob,

To ferry over River Styx,

After a toll to me be paid.

Sometimes, I will put in a fix,

Like deal with live Hercules I made.

But doing this for centuries

Has truly become such a bore.

I need find something new to ease

The same ol', same ol' of this chore.

So I've joined a dating website,

Take my mind off this ferry plight.

 End of My Love

I remember the day she came,

The cute girl who moved in next door.

I found out Susie was her name.

My love for her grew all the more,

As through the summer we would go

On walks to the park, and would ride

The playground rides. All I did know

Was feeling oh so good inside.

As school would open soon, we made

Plans being there that we could choose,

Both of us starting second grade.

Then Susie gave me the sad news.

Gee whiz, my love ended the day,

Susie and her folks moved away.

 Commitment

Marriage as institution is

Requiring commitment, the wife

So often yells at me, gee whiz,

I feel condemned to doing life.

First falling in, then out of love,

Now for the wife, I feel just hate,

And getting so sick and tired of

This marriage that's doomed to ill fate.

The wife refuses to divorce

Me, so I'm getting all the more

Mentally unstable of course.

I'm going crazy to my core.

In a funny farm I now be,

That's where the wife committed me.

 Better, Not Bitter

I'm chocoholic since quite young,

But remember that first time it

Tasted so bitter to my tongue,

Baking chocolate, not a hit.

So since that time, made sure of course

That any chocolate I had,

Be sweetened by a sugar source,

Be such a combo, I be glad.

But sugar diabetes, I

Acquired from all that sugar in

Chocolate, but then came supply,

Non sugar sweeteners, a win.

Better, not bitter, chocolate treat,

When mixed with substance making it sweet.

 Crowd Walking

In the city I walk a lot.

I must do so, and always I'm

With huge crowds of walkers who've got

To be walking at the same time.

I truly don't like to be stuck

In a huge crowd like a sardine

Pressed with others in a can, yuck,

Ever pushed and shoved 'twixt and 'tween.

And so a thought did come to me,

How walkers would give me more space,

While still in a huge crowd I'd be,

And walking at a normal pace.

Best way to walk in crowds, I think,

Be sure that as I walk, I stink.

 Wifey Wins, Hubby Loses

Wifey and Hubby play a game

Of cards, each card being dealt up.

Both of the spouses have the aim

Of beating the other one, yup.

Wifey well knows that Hubby is

Always quite a bad loser, and

So she makes it serious biz

That she is gonna win this hand.

And sure enough, card flipped up be

For poor Hubby the losing one.

As Wifey giggles at him, she

Is again having all the fun.

Flipped me, the Joker, with the news,

All his marbles, Hubby does lose.

 Dad's Secret

"The Brady Bunch," hit T.V. show

Of the 1970's that

Family viewers came to know

In a warm, loving habitat.

But Dad was in the closet gay.

Mom and others in show knew this.

If public knew, would end bad way,

Cancellation, this show of bliss.

So Dad and Mom and others would

Not divulge Dad's secret, so be

A run for the show, pretty good,

As a squeaky clean family.

Finale stuff, Dad fumed about,

So the show's bosses wrote Dad out.

 The Wife of Me

The wife, I married not by choice,

But by her daddy's clear intent,

With his shotgun and his firm voice,

The message to me clearly sent.

The wife desires I believe that

I won't regret this choice as made,

Me with her in our habitat,

Her daddy's wish won't be betrayed.

The wife reminds me constantly,

That for me to think otherwise,

Is surely no thought that should be,

Becuz her daddy's wrath would rise.

The wife does truly get upset

When told our marriage, I regret.

 Ever To and From War

The powerful choose to wage war,

And send the powerless to fight.

The rich get richer while the poor

Are sent for causes rarely right.

Battle after battle be fought,

Some of them won, some of them lost.

The fighting pawns suffer a lot.

Just surviving comes at a cost.

Those who don't die are wounded some,

In body, heart and soul and mind,

Some never to recover from

Continuous game of war kind.

The powerful pick merchandise,

The powerless to pay the price.

 Get Over Me

I hear you're still complaining of

All of the wrongs that I done you.

Hell, I can't help you fell in love

With me, I never asked you to.

With you, I soon did understand

You be a downer, always bound

To be in cemetery land.

Became a bummer, you around,

And so I dropped you like a rock,

Then ran away as quick I could.

Maybe it comes to you a shock,

My life with you was not that good.

I sure would have stayed with you, bitch,

If I'd known you would get so rich.

 Heat of the Moment

Together in this time and place,

Both being in a state of bliss,

Arms wrapped around in close embrace,

Great expectations for our kiss.

Our eyes do meet in messaging

Our mutual consent to be,

Emphasized in heavy breathing,

In anticipation that we

Will very soon let our lips lock,

As moving forces meant to meet,

Sensing lovely electric shock,

Generating a lot of heat.

You hot pepper me with desire,

Surely catching my lips on fire.

 My Time in God's Time

In the Bible, I often read

Of Kairos, God's time, tales of old,

Teaching lessons of life indeed,

Still applicable as when told.

When I was young in Sunday School,

The Bible stories were taught me,

Especially the Golden Rule,

That still today, as then should be.

The times the Bible tells of this,

Thousands of years ago, are still

Teaching me that I should not sin.

I should conform mine to God's will.

Chronologically now old, I'm

Seeking salvation in God's time.

Dan'l Webster, jumper, well trained

For jumping competition set.

No one in the county complained,

So on Dan'l was heavy bet.

But when came time for Dan'l to

Jump, he just could not move at all.

Judges did what they had to do,

Dan'l, the loser, was the call.

Later, Dan'l belched out some lead

Pellets, causing big gain in weight,

Not knowing Dan'l had been fed

By his competition, ill fate.

This Mark Twain tale made history,

Sport of frog jumping came to be.

 Touchy

An old veteran, I got to

Go on a base and get to see

A stealth fighter, visible true,

Right out in the open it be.

Even though I could see it fine,

It was quite a distance away,

Past a rope with "No Touching" sign.

I wanted a closer display,

So I went past the rope, right up

To the stealth fighter, fast I got.

Then I reached out and touched it, yup,

Would blame I'm feeble if was caught.

After touching it, I can vouch

I heard that stealth fighter yell, "Ouch!"

 In My Nature

The man's best friend, he said I be.

We be together a long time.

He could always depend on me

To stay with him as long as I'm

Getting fed the food that I need.

And he did feed me very well,

I appreciated indeed,

And contented with him, did dwell.

But then nature did take her course,

And hunger within me did grow.

I had to find a new meat source.

Naturally, to him I did go.

My friend, the man, is now dead meat,

And I, a hungry dog, must eat.

 They've Never Met

My heart tells me I should do this.

My mind tells me I should do that.

If this and that were same, pure bliss

Throughout my being habitat.

But alas, this my heart tells me

Is never that, my mind does tell.

So always there's uncertainty

Within my being where I dwell.

Both right and wrong be mind and heart,

So can't say either tells me best.

But worst is feeling ripped apart,

When they are both put to the test.

Two things in me keep me upset,

My mind and heart, who've never met.

 Loss of a King

King Charles the First of England be

A king who thought he held the crown

By right of God's divinity.

Thinking otherwise, he put down

As corruptible to his reign,

And would be fought with all his will,

While on the throne he did remain,

Divine destiny to fulfill.

So then became a test of might,

Rebels against the king arose.

King Charles sent his armies to fight,

But victory went to his foes.

Parliament ruled the king be dead.

Over crown right, Charles lost his head.

Are really getting hard to hear.

I know you hope my answer be

That in our relationship, we're

Gonna be such a perfect pair,

And all your what ifs? answered by

Me, erasing all your despair.

But I've got no reason to lie,

So I'm gonna do what you ask.

The hole you've dug, I will fulfill

The sad but necessary task

Of shutting you up with a kill.

 My Current Chapter

Decades back, my life did begin.

It's true that time does seem to fly.

Now my 7th chapter I'm in,

Statistics say that soon I'll die.

In Chicago, long my home town,

Along the Lake I often walk.

But older I get, I tire down,

Time chips away at this old block.

Yet able still to volunteer

At the lovely Lincoln Park Zoo.

Being there puts me in best cheer,

That still there's much to think and do.

From fact to fiction dream I nurse,

Maybe my chapters will reverse.

 Elemental

The Santa Ana winds do blow

Savage wildfires out of control,

And my home to ashes does go.

I feel such loss deep in my soul.

Then all around me starts to shake,

And water mains violently burst,

Another California quake,

Not good, but would not be the worst.

Earth, wind and fire, together be

Reminders of nature's cruel force.

But part of nature, also me,

So I seek help from nature's source.

And on my knees I fall and pray,

In faith that God will show my way.

 Nightshade & Nectar

I be a Nightshade plant who is

Oft visited by insects who

Slurp up my nectar making biz.

In turn pollination they'll do.

Some bugs bug, meant to or not.

Then sugary "wound" nectar, I

Make, summoning friend ants, a lot,

Who feed on my nectar supply.

And then, in return, defend me best,

Attacking those bugs bugging me,

And ridding me of such a pest.

A sweet alliance this does be.

Friends are called on by this Nightshade,

Depending on nectar I've made.

 Misplaced Normalcy

In the beginning be ideal

As a destination to go,

To be of service, true and real.

Privilege upon meant to bestow

The goer with the senders' trust,

The goer would work hard and long,

To be a part of good and just,

And not to go for selfish wrong.

But such ideal did not long last,

As over time the goers went,

And chose self serving vote be cast,

As self be prime to represent.

Going to U.S. Congress for

Self greed is normal, more and more.
