Sense Sonnet - Acher

 Loss of a King

King Charles the First of England be

A king who thought he held the crown

By right of God's divinity.

Thinking otherwise, he put down

As corruptible to his reign,

And would be fought with all his will,

While on the throne he did remain,

Divine destiny to fulfill.

So then became a test of might,

Rebels against the king arose.

King Charles sent his armies to fight,

But victory went to his foes.

Parliament ruled the king be dead.

Over crown right, Charles lost his head.

 My Answer to Your Question

What if? questions from you to me

Are really getting hard to hear.

I know you hope my answer be

That in our relationship, we're

Gonna be such a perfect pair,

And all your what ifs? answered by

Me, erasing all your despair.

But I've got no reason to lie,

So I'm gonna do what you ask.

The hole you've dug, I will fulfill

The sad but necessary task

Of shutting you up with a kill.

What if? What if? What if? What if?

Here' your answer, you're now a stiff.

 My Current Chapter

Decades back, my life did begin.

It's true that time does seem to fly.

Now my 7th chapter I'm in,

Statistics say that soon I'll die.

In Chicago, long my home town,

Along the Lake I often walk.

But older I get, I tire down,

Time chips away at this old block.

Yet able still to volunteer

At the lovely Lincoln Park Zoo.

Being there puts me in best cheer,

That still there's much to think and do.

From fact to fiction dream I nurse,

Maybe my chapters will reverse.

 Elemental

The Santa Ana winds do blow

Savage wildfires out of control,

And my home to ashes does go.

I feel such loss deep in my soul.

Then all around me starts to shake,

And water mains violently burst,

Another California quake,

Not good, but would not be the worst.

Earth, wind and fire, together be

Reminders of nature's cruel force.

But part of nature, also me,

So I seek help from nature's source.

And on my knees I fall and pray,

In faith that God will show my way.

 Nightshade & Nectar

I be a Nightshade plant who is

Oft visited by insects who

Slurp up my nectar making biz.

In turn pollination they'll do.

Some bugs bug, meant to or not.

Then sugary "wound" nectar, I

Make, summoning friend ants, a lot,

Who feed on my nectar supply.

And then, in return, defend me best,

Attacking those bugs bugging me,

And ridding me of such a pest.

A sweet alliance this does be.

Friends are called on by this Nightshade,

Depending on nectar I've made.

 Misplaced Normalcy

In the beginning be ideal

As a destination to go,

To be of service, true and real.

Privilege upon meant to bestow

The goer with the senders' trust,

The goer would work hard and long,

To be a part of good and just,

And not to go for selfish wrong.

But such ideal did not long last,

As over time the goers went,

And chose self serving vote be cast,

As self be prime to represent.

Going to U.S. Congress for

Self greed is normal, more and more.
