El Cid

El Cid, a great warrior of Spain,
Battled against invading Moors,
That kept coming like the rain
Pouring onto the Spanish shores.
An arrow did pierce El Cid's shield.
He died. Despair fell on his men.
Coming onto the battlefield,
His wife, Jimena, kissed him, then
Secured well, El Cid's body on
Babieca, his great war horse.
Leading his army's charge upon
The Moors greater invading force.

El Cid had come back from the dead.
His army rallied. The Moors fled.

The Web of Crime

The ransom note came in snail mail,
Demanding that I had to pay
A million bucks, or without fail,
Love's fate would go in a bad way.
I checked around and could not find
The love of my life anyplace.
The all of my heart, soul and mind
Just disappeared without a trace.
The ransom, I could not afford
To raise it in such a short time.
No cops threat could not be ignored.
Why me - the vic of such a crime?

My whole world has come so unwrapped,
Since My Space web site was blognapped.

Mom Chose Me

Mom was four months pregnant with me,
When she got the very bad news.
She had cancer malignancy.
To treat there was no time to lose.
Mom needed chemo right away,
If there was to be hope at all,
To keep the cancer spread at bay.
An abortion was a must call.
But, Mom said it would have to wait
Till I was safe and sound outside.
I came at the earliest date.
Mom held me close before she died.

My Mom gave all that she could give,
So that I could be born and live.

Plan B

Helen Hayes, actress of great fame,
Spent little time on cooking quests.
But one occasion, she felt game
To cook a turkey for some guests.
Just prior to the serving time,
She announced that this was her first
Attempt at baking a bird prime.
They'd all go out to eat at worst.
Excusing herself, off she went
To the kitchen to bring Tom out.
She carried back the main event,
And looked at her guests with some doubt.

Around the table each guest sat,
Holding his and her coat and hat.

Cause of Death

Nicolas, the last Russian czar,
His wife, four daughters and one son,
Were under an unlucky star -
The Bolshevik Revolution.
Prisoners, they were taken to
A cellar and put in a pose
By Bolshevik guards, who then drew
Their weapons and massacred those
Of the Romanov line, whose crime
Was to represent the wrong side,
At the wrong place, at the wrong time.
A cause born, a family died.

How righteous can any cause be
In murdering a family?

What to Give?

Giving a very unique gift,
Not on a list to Santa Claus,
Gives endangered species a lift;
Contributes to a worthy cause.
Purchased by auction on EBay
From a foundation charity.
Who cares what price I have to pay
For the stocking stuffer to be?
Available in White or Black,
Or Indian or Sumatran.
Regrettably, there is a lack
Of the so very rare Javan.

A gift to knock one for a loop -
A big chunk of dried rhino poop.

Shoot!

My dog is ready for the hunt.
Ol' Red knows when he sees my gun,
And heads for the pickup out front,
Knowin' we're headin' for some fun.
At the truck, I remember that
I done forgot to bring my flask.
Settin' the gun down on the mat,
I go and take care of that task.
I'm walkin' back and I can see
Ol' Red is chompin' at the bit,
Barkin' at me impatiently.
But then it all turns into shit.

The last thing I see is ol' Red
Bumpin' the gun. It shoots me dead.

Lawrence in Grief

T.E. Lawrence, more than a name.
His military exploits made
Lawrence of Arabia fame.
Some say he was quite a gay blade.
Selim Ahmed, 14 years old,
Lawrence called him Dahoum (the dark).
A handsome Arab lad, all told.
On love's lane, the two did embark.
They shared together all they could,
Outer and inner, near and far,
The fears, the faith, the bad, the good.
But bonds forever never are.

Typhus took Dahoum and he died.
Lawrence of Arabia cried.

Hair Raising

I drove into the parking lot
Of the mini mall, and right there
In front of Tina's was a spot.
I looked in the mirror at my hair -
A frightful mess. Thank goodness that
Tina's Hair Pros was open late.
To my horror, in no time flat,
The car lurched forward and went straight
Through the window of the salon.
Pandemonium hit the place.
Bodies fleeing hither and yon.
Tina's was not a happy face.

I had no choice but go back home,
Hoping to make do with my comb.

Voyeur Risk

It isn't fair that I am blind,
Just for taking a no no look.
I could see maybe getting fined
For the liberty that I took.
Lady Godiva riding nude,
On horseback, through the public square,
To get hubby, that taxing dude,
To cut taxes and to tax fair.
All Coventry was told not to
Look at the Lady on her ride.
But, I could just not help but do
A little peek, and my eyes fried!

Everyone, including Mom,
Started calling me Peeping Tom.

Top Shelf

A simple beekeeper named Ed
From New Zealand went to Nepal.
With his guide he did climb and tread
Up Everest, Highest of all
Mountains. The first to reach the top,
Ed Hillary made history.
World wide renown would never stop.
But, he took it all quite humbly.
For charities, he used his name.
His lifetime he did dedicate
Good upon his mountain top fame.
Sir Edmund died at 88.

Because Mt. Everest was there.
Sir Edmund was extraordinaire.

Coeds Under Attack

Geology class does not rock.
But thankfully, it's almost done.
Who is this dude with the weird walk?
Oh my God! He's got a shot gun!
Is this some kind of sicko joke?
The blast echoes the answer. No!
I look down and see my blood soak
Red in my shirt. I gotta go.
Falling over, out of my chair,
I crawl like crazy on the floor.
Shots and screams are everywhere.
If I can only reach that door.

I think I am about to die,
But am too shocked to wonder why.

Good Samaritan

My Mom and I were driving through
The Arizona desert, when
Our truck rolled over into
A ravine. I saw a man then
Come over, and he pulled me from
The wreckage, but my Mom was dead.
Real dark and cold, it had become.
The man wore a coat, but instead,
He took it off and put it round
Me, saying that I'd be okay.
We huddled close there on the ground.
They found us early the next day.

He was arrested, they told me,
'Cause he was here illegally.

Unfinished Work

Sigmund Freud was the father of
People psychoanalysis.
But, this work was not his first love.
He began his career like this -
Solving the puzzle of the eel.
Where were the eels' organs of sex?
This quest had become a big deal
In the scientific complex.
So at the university,
Freud wrestled with eels in his grip.
But, the answer was not to be.
Perhaps, the first Freudian slip.

When eel sex stuff he could not find,
Freud turned to human stuff in mind.

Name Frame

A girl took a trip with a man,
And he was much older than she.
When she returned home, rather than
Admit to her folks truthfully,
She made up a tale that she had,
Against her will, been forced to go
With this guy, and he did things bad
To her. The cops were called, and so
He was arrested for sex crime.
He had been convicted before,
And previously had served time,
Which helped the girl's tale all the more.

An additional twist, but true.
The sex offender's name - Pheuk Kue.

Whole Hearted

'Twas that moment when we first met,
An enveloping energy
Sparked us into a matching set,
Sharing a common destiny.
The back and forth and up and down
Of life we share each day by day.
We watch each other smile or frown,
And give and take along the way.
We both learn better how to care
About each other's want and need.
We grow together as we share
The dreams we sowed in that first seed.

We are each other's valentine,
And I am yours and you are mine.

Any Means

Mentally retarded since birth,
My sister now was 10 years old.
She thought I was the best on earth,
And would do whatever I told.
Some friends and I devised a plan
To further the aims of the cause.
We built it in a short time span.
I told my sister, that because
It was a secret, she should wear
It underneath her dress, when she
And Mom went to the city square,
Where lots of people there would be.

She walked into the square with Mom,
And I detonated the bomb.

Sad Wonder

It's so hard for me to believe
That over a year has gone past.
Caught between to hope or to grieve.
How long will Jesse's missing last?
We were part of a student group,
Staying in Chicago downtown
At a big hotel in the Loop,
For a seminar of renown.
After a social late at night,
Jesse said he needed some air.
He assured me he'd be all right.
But he disappeared. God knows where!

Jesse walking away from me.
It is my saddest memory.

You're Up Chuck

Chuck had gone to a medium
To communicate with the dead.
No particular one had come
To mind to talk to, but instead,
Chuck, an avid golfer, did want
To find out if he could still play
Golf, after he'd gone on to haunt.
The medium had this to say,
"Good news, bad news. The good news is
"A great course is waiting for you,"
"To hone your skills as a golf whiz."
"Hit those shots eternally true."

"The bad news is that you are due"
"To tee off this Monday at 2."

Vent

My DVD player played not.
The manuel - I could not read.
I called the place where I had bought
The damn thing. They said I would need
To bring it in. Well that was swell.
I had nothing better to do
Than fall more into techo hell -
Not after what I had been through.
I took the player and went out
To the car. The player I set
On the driveway, then went about
Giving frustration an outlet.

That damn player just went too far.
I ran over it with the car.

First Thanksgiving Food

The first Thanksgiving feast, they say,
Was a modest and simple fare;
Not all the stuff eaten today;
Just what was hunted and grown there.
Wild venison and fowl were served;
Cranberries, but not sugar sweet.
All finger foods, but not hor d'oeurved -
No utensils with which to eat.
Pumpkins, but no butter or crust.
No tables, so the ground was used.
Fermenting grains was not a must.
So no alcohol was abused.

Going to church was the main thing.
No football that first Thanksgiving.

Germ Free

A hospital setting is where
I too often find myself in.
It is not my choice to be there.
I'm just under somebody's skin,
Who unknowingly gives the chance
For me to find the perfect host,
Where I can do my song and dance,
And spread my misery the most.
Hospitals seek to help the ill,
But often are careless in how
Safeguards are used to keep me still.
I only thrive as some allow.

I am a germ where the sick stay.
Perhaps I will kill you today.

Unknown Past

She and he were 20 years old,
When they first met aboard a train.
During the long trip each one told
About themselves, without refrain.
They were amazed how much the same
Were ways they thought and felt about
Life. When the end of the trip came,
They were in love. There was no doubt.
They vowed their love forevermore,
The happiest couple on earth.
She and he, 20 years before
Were separated twins at birth.

They got married to each other,
She and he, sister and brother.

Go Digital

With her new camera, Snow White
Took pictures of the dwarfs at home.
Bashful was halfway out of sight.
And yawning was the Sleepy gnome.
Grumpy had choice words that weren't "cheese."
A smile covered Happy's whole face.
The lens got sprayed from Sneezy's sneeze.
Dopey just stared off into space.
Snow took the film without delay.
Not fast enough was what she heard.
The clerk said come back on Monday.
Snow White frowned, but Doc reassured,

"Now Snow White don't you be so glum."
Doc smiled, "Monday your prints will come."

With this Ring...

The night before my wedding day,
At my bachelor party bash,
My best man had the ring - okay?
And with it did something real rash.
He put it in my drink for fun.
I took a gulp and swallowed it.
Then he told me what he had done.
We all would be in real deep shit.
I took a whole bunch of ex lax.
And through the hours did do-do,
Sifting through it all to the max.
Near wedding time, the ring came through.

On her finger, I slipped the ring.
She finds out - my a's in a sling.

Desperate Groom

A wedding day, supposedly,
Is a happy occasion for
The couple - bride and groom to be.
But for me, it's something much more.
Years ago, some dogs I did kill,
And a curse befell me from that.
Bad health and bad luck ever will
Be mine, unless I atone at
The altar of wedding vow,
And taking a dog as my bride.
I say "I do," she says "bow wow."
We walk hand in paw, side by side.

I know this may not end the curse.
I hope the fleas don't make it worse.

MisSpell

I knew that the girl was possessed.
Her behavior was just not right.
I looked for a spell that was best,
In a book by a witch of white.
I found one that seemed appropos,
Removing a demon from hell.
I tied up and gagged the girl, so
That I could carry out the spell.
I stabbed her with a twice blessed knife,
And strangled her with holy rope.
I could not bring her back to life.
The book did not offer much hope.

Obviously, the spell went bad.
I had to try. I am her Dad.

Beyond Explanation

Two brothers who had worked for years
As window washers were at work
Fifty stories high. Their worst fears
Happened when their scaffold did jerk,
Because the ropes broke at one end.
The two were hurtled into air.
They locked arms as they did descend
500 feet, falling down there,
Hitting ground. Miraculously,
One brother was alive and well,
With hardly any injury.
The other - broken where he fell.

The two brothers fell side by side.
One survived, but the other died.

Peck a Pick

Why did the chicken cross the road?
To get to the other (old) side;
To better hear the cock that crowed;
To stretch her legs out long and wide;
To lay it all out on the line;
To Caesar chance to et tu Rome;
To board her bill in the EATS sign;
To fly the coop that she called home;
To see if that semi would stop;
To prove she was more than just cluck;
To go to the White Hen to shop;
To say to the world, "What the duck?"

I'd say the hen had a notion
To become poultry in motion.
