 I Be For All Seasons

It seems like only yesterday

That I sprang forth in early spring,

Budded and bloomed in youthful way,

Pulled along in time's maturing.

Fruitfully ripening throughout

The summer of my life as I

Did reach performance peak no doubt.

But then descended into my

Autumn when I knew nature be

Making known today to enter

The time of reflecting for me,

For soon becoming my winter.

Within me I feel some sorrow

That I will be gone tomorrow.

 Bad Dream

Amid my slumber it did seem

Some meddlesome ghost from my past had

To bother me with a dark dream

Of taking me back to times bad

When I was a youth left alone

In an old house falling apart.

Parents dead, I was on my own,

And sobbing from a broken heart.

A time and place so long ago

When such a weak willed one was me.

I vowed never again feel so

Helpless and hopeless ever be.

My wakening does intervene,

On satin sheets still rich and mean.

Sense Sonnet - Steamer

 Whine About

A question that I have for you,

Your response back would be polite.

Do need an answer, really do.

Not answering is just not right.

Yes, a lot of questions I ask,

And you never do answer back,

Which of course always tends to task

My self esteem due to your lack

Of regard on how I must feel

When you decide to just ignore,

Causing me to whine a great deal.

And now I am whining some more.

So first some whining I do vent,

Then my question to you be sent.

Sense Sonnet - Steamer

 Wasn't Around!

Though I don't get credit for it,

I'm inventor of the first wheel.

Long time ago but won't forget

At the time it was a big deal.

Put on an axle the wheel would

Allow for easier transport

Of heavy objects which was good.

I was getting lots of support

For my invention which was seen

As the greatest one ever known.

I had made this simple machine,

Fame and fortune all on my own.

I could have been a zillionaire,

Except the wheel I made was square.

 Billy

I was driving my car that day.

Dashing across the street he came.

I could not swerve out of his way.

Police said I was not to blame.

His name was Billy I found out,

Six years old, as old as he'd be.

His death a tragedy no doubt,

One forever that would haunt me.

All the "what ifs" have come to mind

For a dif'rent outcome instead,

Searching my soul hoping to find

Forgiveness that Billy is dead.

Whenever I do drive a car,

Thought of Billy is never far.

Sense Sonnet - Pumper

 Memory of Mine

My memories I know I had,

But now forgotten over time.

Sure many good, sure many bad,

But gone without reason or rhyme.

It's a natural thing I guess.

My brain does only do so much.

Each day I'm remembering less

Till when totally out of touch.

I cannot rely on my own

In and out memory of course.

I stick a lot in my smart phone,

Relying on that handy source.

No doubt A.I. is moving toward

Every memory be stored.

 Boston City Hall

Boston City Hall completed

In 1968 to be

Brutalist design concreted,

Ever since a controversy.

Wedding cake columned upside down,

Ugliest building ever made.

Eye sore to all of Boston town.

Most of the public does tirade.

All of the dark and cold cement

Has cemented in public call,

Due to the widespread discontent,

For building a new city hall.

The Boston Globe told brutal truth,

"Needs to be picked like a dead tooth."

 Mario's Request

Hey kids come join us one and all.

It's Mario, I'm with my crew

Because an adventure does call,

And of course we want help from you.

Though Italian plumber I be,

I rarely have time to fix pipes,

Too busy with bro, Luigi,

Fighting evil and villains, yipes!

Come along with me and the gang.

All powered up, I'm leading us

To best those nasty meanies, dang.

Oops, I'm sorry, I should not cuss.

So kids come join us I do ask

To help us with this super task.

 Death's Grip

Death did have a firm grip on me

Lying in bed, but then the smell

Of sugar cookies came to be.

The wife was baking I could tell.

So I dragged myself downstairs to

The kitchen table where they lay,

Hundreds of cookies, and I knew

That before death would have its way,

I would savor one last delight.

So I did grip a cookie and,

Still in death's grip, started to bite.

A spatula did slap my hand.

"For the funeral," the wife said.

I dropped the cookie and dropped dead.

Sense Sonnet - Acher

 Transitioned

A free verse poet I did be.

Free verse was all I freely versed.

I felt that rhyme was beneath me.

For any rhyme around I cursed.

But one sad day while on a tromp

I became so thirsty and so

When I happened upon a swamp,

Even while I did surely know

That drinking such water was bad,

Nevertheless I gave into

My great thirst and big gulps I had.

Next poem written, truth I knew.

This water changed me for all time.

Out is free verse and in is rhyme.

 Dis"clothes"ed

It was kind of a chilly day,

So layers of clothes I did don.

I stopped in a park on my way,

And found a bench to sit upon.

Picked up a book someone left there.

"The Joy of Clothes," the book was named,

Had positivity to share

Of good fashion as pages claimed.

I read the book for a short while,

But clothes never meant much to me.

I cared little for fashion style,

And had someplace I needed be.

Having to go, exit I took,

But my clothes stayed to read the book.

 My Money Talks

The saying, "money talks" most know

Doesn't mean money itself talks,

Which if from a billfold did flow

Would cause some listeners some shocks.

Those having lots of money do

Be the ones who get to be heard,

Cuz of their spending power, true,

Gives them "hear me" status preferred.

I don't have much money but it

Nevertheless does talk to me.

I hear it talk and so, to wit,

An exception I guess I be.

My money talks to me cuz I

Ever hearing it say, "Bye Bye."

 Rifle Woman

I remember that first day when

She walked tall into the saloon,

Into the world of drinking men.

She grinned and whistled a tough tune.

Over her shoulder by a strap

She carried a rifle which said,

"Don't be givin' me any crap,"

"Or else you're gonna end up dead."

Came to the bar to where I stood,

Ordered a beer and smiled at me.

Beginning of something real good,

Rifle totin' couple we be.

I know my rifle woman can

Well outshoot me, her rifle man.

 Hell for How Long?

Forever since came humankind

There has been hell upon the earth.

All of the good that is divined

Humans do deem of little worth.

Instead the humans ever aim

To use weapons of war and hate

For self advantage in God's name,

Giving goodness and peace ill fate.

And all of this God be aware

Gets no better in time and place.

Hell is winning everywhere,

And God must blame the human race.

Does hell on earth forever stay?

When will there come the Judgement Day?

Sense Sonnet - Chiller

 Holy(less) Land

Innocent children at risk in

The Holy Land forever be.

From adults their children learn sin.

The cycle goes on endlessly.

The adult sinners sin with aim

Of taking self advantage of

Old hostilities in God's name,

Resulting in more hate, less love.

And now innocent children face

Worst fear of any Dad and Mom.

Likely coming in time and place,

Holy land nuked away by bomb.

Radioactive Holy land,

Will humankind then understand?

 Golly Polly

My parrot Polly did fly loose.

But she did fly back the next day.

Had a one night stand with a goose.

She told me there'd be hell to pay

If she again encountered him.

Polly didn't look like she should.

A rash on her privates looked grim.

Maybe the vet could do some good.

Diagnosed with an STD,

Specifically called chirpees.

And very common such does be

As a canarial disease.

From the vet I got the good word,

It's tweetable for Polly bird.

 Deep Fried Buckeyes

At the Ohio State Fair be

Where deep fried buckeyes can be found.

Inspired by the state buckeye tree.

Sweet chocolate is dipped around

A peanut butter center so

A look alike buckeye nut is

Worthy enough for name to show.

And then given a battered biz,

To be followed by a deep fried,

Then powdered sugar sprinkled on,

Lastly, a toothpick stuck inside,

Very tasty phenomenon.

Caution, a real buckeye tree nut,

Inedible, will ache your gut.

 Self Inventory

A self help book that I came by

Said important was honesty.

If dishonest, then find out why,

By taking an inventory

Really honest about myself,

Needing to thoroughly exam

My dishonesty, shelf by shelf,

For truth how dishonest I am.

It was hard but I did the job,

Found truth in me that was not nice,

Counted dishonesty a gob,

But found virtue to stop this vice.

I learned my lesson so I took

Back the shoplifted self help book.

 Daughters Of

My mother's mother's mother be

A pirate who set sail to sail

To pirate ships upon the sea.

And now it's my turn as female

To carry on the fam'ly biz,

Captaining my own pirate crew,

And sail to where the booty is,

Daring dastardly deeds to do.

I found a lover took by force,

And hoped for a daughter like me,

But will try again in due course.

This time was a son of a b.

The daughter of the daughters of

A pirate, sea life we all love.

 Namesake

You're due to be born any day.

And I, your Mom, am filled with joy.

Sadly, your Dad has passed away.

So whether you're a girl or boy,

For both of us I will give you

All my love and love from your Dad.

I have enough to give for two.

Now that he's gone I do feel sad.

But I loved him and he loved me.

Often the two of us talked of

What your name was going to be.

Your Dad's name, Robert, I do love.

Very early this morn you came.

Welcome. Roberta is your name.

 The Essence of Me

When water vapor does condense,

And turn to droplet or ice form,

I am visible in suspense,

And be deemed a natural norm.

Visibility, when I'm aired,

More dense I am, more the degree

The seeing through me is impaired.

Sometimes a hazard I can be.

But I can also be lots of

Fun for folks for using me for

Making mischief or making love.

I come up in tales told galore.

Fog, think of me when I'm around

As a cloud that's touching the ground.

Sense Sonnet - Pumper

 No One's Talking

After an ultrasound exam

For a consult doctors were called,

And in the picture there I am.

The doctors seem to be appalled

By the looks on their faces of

Disbelief in what they do see,

A lot of eyebrows raised above,

And jaws dropping looking at me.

All such attention is new stuff

For me, recently coming to

Knowing I've been here long enough.

I do wanna get out, I do.

Cuz all the silence I assume,

I'm the elephant in the womb.

 The Mystic Shaw

George Bernard Shaw, a famous man,

At first said he was atheist,

And over decades of time span

With that self claim he did persist.

Then in the 1890's he

Did renounce his atheism,

And repackaged himself to be

Protestant of mysticism.

Shaw now maintained that a life force,

A deity had talked to him,

Explaining evolution's course

Was trial and error done on whim.

Shaw said his mysticism be

"Gospel of Shawianity."

Sense Sonnet - Acher

 Saved Soul

I've known of Jesus Christ since birth,

And grew up a believer of

Christianity as true worth

Keeping faith fully in God's love.

But then did come a dark time when

A falling out of faith I had,

And I turned more and more to sin.

My once good life I turned to bad.

Then Jesus came one blessed day,

Found me in the gutter forlorn,

Helped me to find salvation's way,

And by God's grace I am reborn.

I erred and forgiven divine.

The soul I seek to save is mine.

 Singing in the Field

Father is feeling ill today,

So I, his lassie, agreed to

Go to the field and cut the hay,

A farmer's daughter's duty due.

While I'm working I sing a song

To better help the time to pass.

A traveler happens along.

I wonder if he'll help this lass!

But I notice his hands to be

Soft and tender, and I know it,

Of not much use his helping me.

He probably is a poet.

I sing on, practicing my choice,

Next week when I go on "The Voice."

Sense Sonnet - Pumper

 Wise Choice

Niagara Falls locals said

I'd hear the thundering noise first,

If I did continue ahead

On the river, and then the worst

If I'd hear nothing else at at all,

Because that meant over I went,

And that to my death I did fall,

Not a desired to do event.

So I got back in my canoe,

And down the river still did steer.

Then came to know what locals knew,

Loud thunder ahead I did hear.

If you are reading this you know

Another way I chose to go.

 Snow Shoveling

I have a big brother who does

Tell me that angels in the snow

Did fall down from heaven becuz

Some farmer shot them from below

For trespassing above his farm.

I know big brother's full of it.

Bringing it out, I have a charm.

Bug him and flustered he will get.

Angel killing concerning me,

Question after question I ask,

While we two continue to be

Doing the snow shoveling task.

Snow shoveling is made more fun,

More big brother bugging be done.

 Skullduggery

A haunted pumpkin patch is said

To be haunting Halloween night.

Pumpkins be lived in by the dead,

So I'm visiting with delight

To find out if such tale be true,

For book research being my goal.

A best seller I plan to do.

Amongst the pumpkins I do stroll.

Pumpkins start moving suddenly,

And turn into skulls all around.

Then there's a tugging upon me,

And I am pulled down to the ground.

This Halloween sure is not dull.

The pumpkin patch carved out my skull.

 Broken Trust

"In God We Trust," this motto is

Official one of U.S.A.

Too often We the Peoples' biz

Does not go in a God like way.

Whatever trust in God be had,

Be broken when it suits the aim

Of powers that be being bad,

Calling it good and in God's name.

With each broken trust that is made

By We the People in God should

Cause righteousness to further fade

Till We the People lose all good.

Only conclusion drawn God must,

We the People God cannot trust.

 Apartheid

"Apartheid" is a term derived

From Africaans language to mean

"Apartness" where some are deprived

Of basic human rights, first seen

In South Africa where blacks were

Segregated by whites so that

Discrimination did occur.

"Legal," and so hard to combat.

All nations, even the U.S.

Have had or have guilt in some way.

The native Americans, yes,

Apartness is still on display.

Hope is humans will be evolved,

And Apartheid wrongs will be solved.

Notes of wind instruments do breeze.

Beat the drums, key the piano.

Red, orange and yellow costumes soar

Through the air in twirling array.

As long as autumn lasts, encore

Is always given night and day.

And for each show that's always wow,

Maestro Nature does take a bow.

 Beige

The color beige I did paint my

Bedroom ceiling and laid in bed

Staring at it, I don't know why.

But finally my staring led

To me falling asleep to dream

Of ev'rything in a beige shade.

Then when I woke up it did seem

I just saw beige, I got afraid,

And hurried to the ER where

A doctor checked my vision, and

It was a temporary scare

That I was seeing all so bland.

The doctor did diagnose me,

A case of color blandness be.

 Cause of Death?

Alexander the Great was crowned

King of much of the world then known.

As conqueror he was renowned,

Ruled a vast empire from his throne.

Legend does tell it was a tree

Was the beginning of his end.

On the Euphrates River, he

Was on a boat, rounding a bend.

Alexander did strike his head

Upon a tree limb which did sweep

Off his crown, and soon he was dead.

For him his followers did weep.

When death of Alexander came,

Weeping willow was the tree's name.

Gets good promotions that befell,

Becomes lieutenant governing.

Then was running against his boss.

If given opportunity

A question to God, ask I would

If any earthly churches be,

In God's opinion, any good.

Most churches say that their main goal

Is to convince sinners about

Letting the church help save one's soul,

And that this church is best no doubt.

Ever since churches came around

There's been a competition for

Selling sinners on heaven bound,

But no guarantee what's in store.

My question to God, time will tell.

I don't do church so may do hell.

 Dead Wood

Technically trespassing, I

Did stroll across a neighbor's farm.

I'd seen some woods and wondered why

The trees looked dead, such caused alarm.

And so into the woods I went,

And the more my alarm did rise.

Something was wrong was evident.

Leafless and gray trees in July's

Season for fully filled green trees,

Made me conclude there was some glitch

That I could feel within the breeze,

As my skin did redden and itch.

The reason all the trees had died,

The spraying of a pesticide.

Count Me as No Sun Fan

As winter season does come on,

Shorter be day, longer be night,

A natural phenomenon

Which for me is a pure delight.

A lot of life forms don't like this,

Prefer more sun of longer day.

But longer night for me is bliss.

Moonlight is fine to find my way.

For nocturnal like I do be,

Longer the night, more I get done.

It is a waste of time for me

During the day when there is sun.

Long night, short day, a prime desire,

Cuz sun is hell for this vampire.

My home this tree has always been.

Like a chameleon I can

Change my scale colorings so that

Whenever I opt for that plan

I'm hued just like my habitat.

Through the seasons my tree does change,

Its leaves most colorful in fall.

And so of course I rearrange

My colors to blend in with all.

Bright yellow, orange and red attire,

I like as though I may breathe fire.

 Second Thoughts

When you and I did meet at first

The snow was coming down in June

And made my mood the very worst.

The sun was going 'round the moon,

So being superstitious I

Felt that this was bad omen of

Our meeting and that was why

I was in no rush to let love

Between the two of us take hold.

Down deep inside I knew this be

A mistake to treat you so cold.

Time came I hoped you'd forgive me.

I went and saved the best for last,

But was too late because you passed.

And hope my heart will never know.

Each broken promise I stuff in

If kept open too long, this bin

Is certainly prone to ignite,

And find a fiery woe to spread

Throughout causing me undue pain.

Each broken promise should instead

Be hid in this drawer to remain.

And all my family did die,

Having true faith can benefit.

And allowing the lake to glow

In a setting that is divine.

Upon the lake the diamonds dance,

Choreographed in nature's way

To dazzle me and to entrance

Upon my skull I form a smile.

 Cornelia Street

I remember the night we went

Someplace on Cornelia Street,

I felt lucky that we did meet

And got very drunk in that bar.

Then all the closer we did get,

Some backseat romping in my car.

Yeah, felt very lucky we met,

But next morning I had to leave.

Baby, I know that made you sad.

But you just waste time if you grieve

For something more than what we had.

From Mississippi I came to

The Coolidge White House in the year

1926, meant to do

But got a Prez pardon and named

Rebecca, and the Prez and I

Became best buddies, he I tamed

Into a raccoon loving guy.

I often took him for a walk

Around the White House grounds and he

Had someone with whom he could talk,

And know he could fully trust me.

I was mischievous one a lot.

Many White Houseplants I'd unpot.

And no phone call, stood up I guess.

Exasperated, off I took

The dress and put on my p.j.s,

And proceeded to read a book

On the couch in a comfy laze.

After a while the doorbell rang,

And my very late date stood there.

Wanted to cuss him out, but dang,

I'm too polite so did not share.

He had the nerve to say to me,

"Ready, you don't appear to be!"

Some deemed a minus, some a plus.

We can't stand some, some we hold dear.

Some neighbors we have make us glad,

And when we see them we feel good.

Some neighbors we have make us mad

That they are in the the neighborhood.

There are some neighbors that we find

Do be saints in how they live life.

But some are found of sinning kind,

Causing us lots of stress and strife.

Other ones' neighbors do be we.

What sort of neighbors do we be?

And for a fee with you I'll chat,

Into your future make a call,

Especially 'bout Halloween,

Which is your busy time of year

For flying in the night sky scene,

Scaring watchers when you appear.

But with my "purr"fect vision I

Grimly foretell a coming glitch

In your ability to fly,

A threat to scare even a witch.

This Halloween you will face doom,

Be overthrown by your own broom.

 Deal with the Grim Reaper

Last night it was my turn, Death came,

Bony finger at me did point,

Hobbled 'bout on skeleton frame,

Arthritis paining ev'ry joint.

"I see you are hurting," I said,

"Here is what I'm willing to do,"

"If you reprieve my dropping dead,"

"I'll make a comfy couch for you,"

"On which to rest your aching bones."

Death thought about it, then agreed,

And left me sounding relieved groans.

I'd never made a couch indeed.

But then feel the shaking some more.

Mom smiles at me and tells me that

From time to time tremors occur

In our desert habitat.

I'll be fine, Mom does reassure.

Cuz these tremors are new for me

A rattled snake is how I be.

 "Twist and Shout"

Isley Brothers in '62

Did sing a song in passioned way

Of just what I needed to do

On their record that I did play.

I turned the volume up on high,

Having the house all to myself.

Motivation I did supply

As knick knacks jiggled on the shelf.

Grownups just did not understand

This music for kids meant to be.

Then I did a turnaround and

Saw Mom and Dad staring at me.

Folks finding me in "Twist and Shout"

Was cause for my grounding no doubt.

 Walk With Me

After school I do ask two girls

To join and sneak away with me.

"No," shake both heads of pretty curls,

And very angry I do be.

So stab them with my pocketknife.

Then color with my crayons so

To give them cute doll look of life.

Then for a walk we three do go.

It's hard to walk cuz they both are

Kind of heavy and hard to hold.

And so we don't get very far,

Quite a load for a six year old.

People now watch us arm in arm.

I smile with all my boyish charm.

 Rite of Passage

A phoenix bird, she's flying with

The others in an odyssey.

Her kind so often deemed a myth,

But do be winged reality.

She with the others fly at night,

Less likely to be seen that way,

Soaring through sky in the moonlight,

Hiding in rest during the day.

She knows her life cycle will soon

End, and she lets the others know,

Then lands aground under the moon,

And readies as the others go.

In fiery flame this phoenix dies.

From burnt ashes she will arise.

 Autumn

Fall season affords festive fun,

Terrific trimmings in the trees,

Delivering of dazzlings done,

Bouncing about in brisky breeze.

And lustrous leaves allow allure.

Some a crimson color become,

Or array of oranges occur.

Seen scenes of sunny yellows some,

As green go going, going gone,

Heeding the having other hue,

The final fate phenomenon,

Down to grand destiny soon due.

Autumn again alters alive

As awesome artwork to arrive.

 Bell

With Gram and gramps on their farm I

Loved growing up as a young boy.

When I was a five year old guy

A new born calf gave me such joy.

From forehead mark I named her Bell,

And spending lots of time with her,

We played together very well.

She was a great playmate for sure.

Then one day Gramps did sit me down

And told me Bell had gone to be

An angel up in heaven town,

And she would ring each bell for sure.

Many years later truth was told.

To a butcher Bell had been sold.

Call Your Mother

You are my only offspring and
Often I look up in the sky.
It's hard for me to understand
Your need for space travel and why.
It was my saddest day alive
When told that you were lost in space
On a planet hell to survive
That is called Earth, an awful place.
I only hope you find a way
To send a message back somehow,
And let me know that you're okay.
I want you in the here and now.

E.T. - wherever you do roam,
Your Mother's asking please call home.

 Spin the Bottle

Spin the bottle, a party game,

Popular with the kids to play.

A spun bottle stops and does aim

At one kid in circled array.

That kid becomes the target for

The happening of that or this

The bottle spinner has in store.

Mostly did used to be a kiss,

But nowadays kids can be such,

Must go to extremes to have fun.

Planting a kiss just isn't much.

A deed more daring must be done.

Spin the bottle, just luck not skill.

Game played to kiss or played to kill?

 Committed

The being: body, mind and soul

Had functioned okay for some time,

Surviving being the main goal

For whatever reason or rhyme.

But then the being noticed that

The mind was thinking stuff bizarre.

The body was being put at

Risk, the soul was out of touch far.

The being didn't seem to mind

That the mind was thinking insane,

And so the body called to find

An outside source to help the brain.

Some people came, all dressed in white,

Strait jacketed the body tight.

 Meridiana

I am Meridiana and

As a she demon appeared to

A human male and command

Gerbert of Aurillac to do

My sexual bidding and he,

Rejected by his earthly love,

Would rise to power thanks to me.

And so we shared many nights of

Impassioned intercourse and I

Left Gerbert begging for more

Even while I did drain him dry.

Of course this all is just folklore.

I helped Gerbert achieve his aim,

And Pope Sylvester he became.

 Decisions to Come

If humankind continues to

Increase in population then

Most likely powerful will do

Deeds so that powerless will thin.

More the powerless will bear less

Young by mandated birth control,

So population will depress

Of powerless as a prime goal.

Of course more will have to be done,

So powerless reaching age set

As to old to be useful one,

Forced euthanizing one will get.

Only the powerful will be

Deciders of humanity.

 Fine Jewelry

This summer rain's over I think.

I admire all the diamonds that

Now gleam upon my petals pink,

Sparkling my garden habitat.

These raindrops falling upon me

Will not last on my petals long,

But continue to ground to be

Helping to make my roots grow strong.

This plant with flowers does depend

Upon rainfall so I may live.

Each raindrop is a special friend.

Boost to my bloom each gem does give.

A human takes a picture there,

Capturing fine jewelry I wear.

The two old humans drag me out

Of the basement every time

Their three year old grandson's about

To visit them, they'll let him climb

Up on this bouncing rocking horse,

Now sitting out in the back yard.

I'm not a real pony of course,

But a toy a kid can regard

As being just like the real thing.

But very clumsy is this kid,

Accident waiting happening.

Know what will happen if it did.

If this kid does fall off of me,

Then for trash pick up I will be.

 Crack the Ripper

At last in vessel to explore

Where humans never before went,

We are upon the ocean floor

At lowest depth, a great event.

But soon we find in the deep black

An opening down to earth's core

As an ever widening crack.

We investigate to learn more,

And find to our grave concern

Pressure causing the rip to be

Growing with constant cool and burn,

Getting worse continually.

The rip will worsen as rips do.

The planet Earth will split in two!

 Not Chosen

The young witch is feeling so sad.

She was not picked to be the bride.

Such great expectations she'd had.

Disappointment she could not hide.

Now not being the chosen one,

Her coven she'd been expelled from.

Unforgivable she had done,

And no longer would be welcome.

Feeling consequences most dire,

Her life force is leaving for sure.

Lost is all that she did desire.

So why had Satan not picked her?

Tears from the young witch's eyes flood.

From broken heart she's crying blood.

 Fur Raising

I woke up spinning all around

With lots of clothes and it was hot.

But then I heard a welcome sound,

Door opening and out I got.

Ran through the house, came to a mirror

And got a shock surprise for sure.

Like Einstein's head I did appear.

Pointing wildly was my white fur.

Now ev'rybody stares at me,

Giggling and wondering what's up

With my fur do going wildly,

Giving a weird look to this pup.

But now I know what can transpire

When I do nap inside the dryer.

 No Crying Out Loud

Often when I feel bad inside

But around others I do be,

I'd be embarrassed if I cried,

So they hear laughing come from me,

When I believe it best that I

Put on a happy but false face,

Because if others see me cry

I could become a pitied case.

And others pitying me would

Make me feel worse on my behalf.

So when I feel bad it is good

To cry inside, but outside laugh.

Silent crying, laughing aloud,

I practice lots, so quite endowed.

But Twitter X I hear now is

Losing loads of ad revenue,

And Elon is not in the biz

Of losing money, what to do!

To freely speak on Twitter X,

But coming soon there'll have to be

Charge card on file for fee collects.

So Elon says feel free to say

On Twitter X but first must pay.

 "From the Morning"

"From the Morning," the final song

Sung by Nick Drake before he died,

Age 26, his life gone wrong,

Pill overdose, his suicide.

From the morning, Nick sang, we rise

From the ground and off we do fly,

And play the game of life's surprise

Everywhere until we die.

Nick, playing the game of life, he

Was finding only dread and fear,

And so his mornings ceased to be.

From his song, these lyrics appear,

"And now we rise And are everywhere,"

This epitaph on Nick's gravestone  inscribed there.

 Make a Crazy Think Twice?

In the U.S.A. guns do be

A right that too often goes wrong.

There's no doubt the gun rights lobby

Is still a power going strong.

Variety of law and rule

On whether guns may or may not

Be carried by staff in a school.

So do the crazies care a lot?

"Teachers carry guns" signs could read

Around the school, a truth or lie.

Such would a crazy maybe heed

And make a sane choice not to try?

Thinking guns the teachers have got,

Would that give crazies second thought?

Long, long into my adulthood

I lived in my parent's basement.

Dependent life felt very good.

All in all I was quite content.

From time to time my folks would try

To persuade perhaps I should be

More independent, they'd just sigh

As I kept my dependency.

In a car crash both parents died.

To pay their debts their house was sold,

And I was forced to live outside

In a world that was hard and cold.

How tasty a fried goose would be.

I guess the geese heard me, cuz then

A chorus of honking was had.

I knew I made a mistake when

All the geese charged me, very mad.

I turned and tried to run away,

But found out geese can faster fly.

Now I've become the hunted prey,

And I'm the one that's gonna fry.

Gosh golly, a gaggle of geese

Pecking me apart, piece by piece.

Has spent the summer, now it's fall.

Instinct tells me it's time that I

Prepare for heeding nature's call.

I have enjoyed my visit here,

So many flowers to choose from,

Providing nectar with good cheer.

As guest I always feel welcome.

But soon the flowers will be gone

As the weather begins to chill.

So it's time for moving on,

With new adventures to fulfill.

Good penmanship did used to be

A talent one could brag about,

Before modern technology

Made keying in, handwriting out.

When writing letters was the main

Way to communicate afar,

Legibility to maintain

Was a required in repertoire,

If one wanted be understood

By the recipient, if not,

Illegibility was good,

And handwriter would use a lot.

Of course many wrote fancy well,

But understanding was still hell.

 Parents Know Best

Mom and Dad listen patiently

As declares one of their offspring

That time has come this youth should be

Out from under parental wing.

The parents have heard this before

As their offspring have come and gone.

It's normal so they don't ignore

And let the youngster sing song on

That youth should be allowed to fly

When youth feel fit and time is best

To learn life's lessons in the sky,

Which cannot be learned in the nest.

Then Mom and Dad tell their young bird,

When time to fly, they'll give the word.

The term, "phobia," means fear,

And the term, "ophis," means snake, yes,

A common condition I hear.

But having it does make me curse

Why I should have such a bad case.

What makes my matter all the worse,

A mirror and I come face to face.

I look into that mirror and see

That a scary snake I do be.

And be so in a loving way.

I know that when I heed that call

Edgar Allan Poe, deemed his last,

And published after Poe did die.

From light to dark the poem passed.

Perhaps the ringing of the bells,

Happy and hopeful in youth time,

But becoming as death foretells,

Sounding bleaker in mournful rhyme.

When Poe did write "The Bells," his wife

Had been dead for about a year,

And maybe he did know his life

Was about done and end was near.

He left for us to seek to know.

Something you just can't understand.

I felt that I was meant to hear

The point of this sermon as clue

That my drinking of liquor be

And omitted from easy sight.

That way the writer does bequeath

Gift to reader of shining light,

Evoking the feeling when read

Of finding the whole story, true,

On treasure hunt, the reader's led.

That's what Hemingway sought to do.

This theory Papa did surmise

Helped him to win the Nobel Prize.

 We Used to be Young

I thought of us when I heard sung

How crazy you did used to be,

Cuz that's when you used to be young,

And hearing that did tickle me.

Yes, sadly I did break your heart

Way back then, and you did break mine.

And the two of us went apart.

But then fate came to us divine,

And once again life we did share.

Since then the years have come and gone,

And we are still a loving pair,

Looking forward as we love on.

You know I love you when you're told

You're still crazy now that we're old.

 Autumn Up

It was a beautiful fall day,

Sunny and bright and crisp and clear,

Perfect for golf round I do say.

On the patio I appear,

Bringing the wife a full tray of

Hot cocoa with marshmallows and

Crossword puzzles the wife does love,

With array of autumn leaves grand.

Place on table in front of her,

Along with her favorite shawl.

The wife is quite impressed for sure,

My gesture this fine day of all.

All to get the wife in the groove,

Hoping my golfing she'll approve.

 Alley Cat Yens

This cat does call this alley home.

During the day I mostly snooze.

During the night I like to roam,

Stirring up trouble to amuse.

Lots of rodents and garbage to

Be smorgasbord to dine upon,

'Twixt and 'tween mischief found to do

In my prowlings from dusk to dawn.

Humans in my alley at night

Why ever there be lots of fun

For me to startle into fright.

Sometimes I even make them run.

Always a human to laugh at,

Crossing paths with this alley cat.

Cover Blown

A South Korea chestnut be

What I disguised myself in form

To sit up in a chestnut tree,

And look to all around as norm.

But a gust of wind did blow and

Down out of the tree I did fall.

Atop a fence post I did land,

No longer looked normal at all.

People walking by, stopped to look

At me, being quite curious.

Of me lots of pictures they took.

This was gonna cause quite a fuss

Back at headquarters, becuz I

Was secret North Korean spy.

 Red Haired and Freckled

From the day born, I've always had

Lots of freckles, lots of red hair,

But never thought either as bad.

Mirrors remind me, always there.

In our family, just I

Have freckles and red hair no doubt,

When we're all together is why

I am the one who's sticking out.

Now that I'm old enough to date,

I do date more than my fair share.

Turned out a pretty girl by fate.

Boys like my freckles and red hair.

Snap, the family last name be.

Ginger, Mom and Dad did name me.

 Middle Aged Couple

Middle aged Wifey sends text

To middle aged Hubby to say,

"If you are sleeping, send your next"

"Dream to me. If laughing away,"

"Send me your smiles. If eating send"

"Me a bite. If drinking send me"

"A sip. I'm always your best friend,"

"And whenever apart we be,"

"Whatever you're doing, if you"

"Just send to me a part of"

"All and anything that you do"

"To me, will strengthen our love."

Middle aged Hubby then replies,

"I'm on the toilet, please advise."

 Wintering Couple

Me and the Missus Porcupine

Are spending winter in the den,

Empty of the kids by design,

Shipped them all off to Uncle Ben.

Gin soaked hot toddies we do boil

To keep our bones warm from chill.

Playing pinochle I'm the foil,

The Missus is the champion still.

We both love cuddling in sack,

Meshing the spiny parts with care.

Of course when warm weather's back,

Again all family affair.

More family we'll likely get.

We're working on next porcupette.

 Pleas of Her Children

Children, earth, water, sky, wind, fire,

Came to Mother Nature to plead

Their case that it was their desire

That because humankind indeed

Was now such danger to them all,

Mother Nature should end this threat.

Would she please heed her childrens' call?

Or else the worst would happen yet.

Her children said they could unite

And wipe all of humankind out.

But other life forms in such fight

Would wrongly be killed too, no doubt.

Mother Nature heard childrens' pleas.

All humankind were turned to trees.

 My Unrequited Love

High school in Park Ridge, Illinois,

She was quite a popular girl.

I was an unpopular boy.

In crowds I'd see her golden curl,

And hear her laughing deep and loud.

I had to love her from afar,

Way out from her and her in crowd.

She was an unreachable star.

When we both graduated, I

Got brave and asked her for a date.

"No" was her no nonsense reply.

I just was not a winning mate.

So off to Bill, Hillary went,

Cuz I'd never be President.
