Guess Who?

James Madison, the President,
Was barely over 5 feet tall.
So often, wherever he went,
No one noticed him there at all.
He vetoed walking in on stilts,
Or being carried up on high.
But what to do about the jilts
Of those who did not see the guy?
First Lady Dolly saved the day.
Some new music she did select.
"Hail to the Chief" a band would play,
And all would know to show respect.

"Hail to the Chief" - James Madison.
Most likely he's the shortest one.

Law Unabiding

City school kids are gunned down dead.
Gang activity gets most blame.
The cops get little help. Instead,
People who know just do not name
The shooters out of fear or scorn.
Morale falls lower in each cop.
The outraged citizens are torn
On what will make the shooters stop.
Pass more gun laws many demand.
Though such laws already exist,
Still the gun gets into the hand.
Crime is committed, gun in fist.

When is the last time that you saw
A criminal obey the law?

Chanel

Chanel is now 20 years old.
This blond wirehaired dachshund has set
The oldest dog record we're told,
Affirmed by all - mistress to vet.
Most of her life an army pooch,
She's lived on bases round the globe.
Her salute - a lickety smooch;
Her uniform - a furry robe.
She's now a civilian retired,
Enjoying life like a puppy.
Her tale certainly has inspired
A 12 year old dachshund like me.

Chanel - Happy Birthday to you.
Just keep on doing what you do.

Missed but not Forgotten

You call me DD45.
That's precise, but a boring name.
No bore if I'd hit the ground live,
Bringing my visit worldwide fame,
Like a peer in 1908
That gave Siberia a shot,
At feeling fully big bang fate
That one of my own kind had wrought.
But, I went on on my merry way,
To leave you to your other stuff.
Perhaps I will be back someday
To see if you endured enough.

This time with Earth, I only toyed.
Maybe not, the next asteroid.

Staying Together

I can't take care of them no more.
My family, I've let them down.
Because of me we are dirt poor.
It's like watching us all drown.
There's just no better times in sight.
Our home - one last walking through,
Wishing each one a last good night,
Then doing what I have to do,
Ending our pain one by one.
My dog, my kids, then my dear wife,
Quickly each awful job is done.
Together, we will leave this life.

I soon will join my family.
There's one more bullet left for me.

Just for Laughs

Nitrous Oxide called laughing gas
Is being dumped into the soil
More potently as time does pass,
Giving the greenies more turmoil.
But those of us who call dirt home,
Are laughing more through night and day,
Giggling and burping through the loam,
Going along in merry way.
We don't last long as living goes,
So laughing makes lifetime less dull.
We're all for giving more brown nose
To dumpers of this chemical.

We earthworms surely love to laugh -
Twice as much when we're cut in half.

Auto No Mobile

A while ago, when I had bought
My new used car, I must confess
I signed but did not read a lot
How the seller could repossess
If in payments I fell behind.
Well, I so fell, and 'twas one night,
When romance was hot on my mind
With the lovely within my sight.
When I tried to start my car,
A stern voice sounded from the dash.
I thought this was going too far,
Telling me no go if no cash.

Announcing my payments were late,
Did not really impress my date.

Line Divine

I am the power of the word,
Given to those who seek my might.
I bestow profound and absurd,
Depending upon my delight.
I savor my true talent to
Manipulate behind the scene.
It matters less what people do,
Than what they read from what I screen.
The people think that what is shown
Is all the product of their work.
If only the real truth were known,
Those same people would go berserk.

I make mankind be shamed or awed.
I am the telepromptor god.

Appetite For

I grabbed her while she walked to school,
And forced her inside of my van.
Get her young and fresh is my rule.
I'm her last and likely first man.
Even with her mouth taped shut tight,
I feel my pleasure in her pain.
I use her up in sheer delight,
Then smother till she's finally slain.
And with my knife, I peel her skin
Away in pieces as a treat.
All that exercise does me in,
And gives me a craving to eat.

When finished with a rape attack,
I like to have a little snack.

Pie

I watched a woman make some pies,
In a place where food was not found,
Where starvation was no surprise.
The pies were laid out on the ground.
Hungry people began to come
To barter with the woman for
The chance to maybe leave with some
Of the pie. They all were so poor.
I turned and walked quickly away,
No longer feeling touristy.
I'd had pie earlier today,
When I wasn't really hungry.

For most of us pie is dessert.
But some must eat a pie of dirt.

Clue In

I'm driving drunk. I know that's bad.
I'm almost home, I'm pretty sure.
Yeah, there's my garage. Boy I'm glad.
Open door - I see through my blur.
I forgot to shut it, I guess.
Oh well. After I park the car,
I'm gonna crash, I must confess.
But who is this guy with a star,
Looking through my window at me?
"Have you been drinking?" asks the guy.
A cop, this guy turns out to be.
I answer him, "Just one drink - why?"

"Because you're drunk, and here's the proof."
"You're parked in my garage - you goof."

Cut

My father said, "Pothimus, you"
"Must be castrated to assure"
"The Pharoah's favor be your due."
The cuts below, I did endure.
As Regent for young Ptolemy,
I sought power all for my own.
Cleopatra did not trust me,
Eunich behind her brother's throne.
Egypt fell into civil war.
Caesar came to save Cleo's life,
By imprisoning me, and more.
Again my fate was by the knife.

Not below, but above instead,
Caesar's soldier cut off my head.

Mutant Myth

Africa, Asia, Europe - shows
The monuments to my form, find
Body lying as in repose,
With head that comes from other kind.
Stories abound about my why.
Am I the guardian divine
Of secrets over which I lie?
That truth will always still be mine.
For now, I'm just a souvenir
Picked up by those who think me trite.
I am no longer viewed in fear.
The world has other ways for fright.

But you will never solve, methinks,
The mystery of me - the sphinx.

Who Me?

John Wayne Gacy, yes that's my name.
Yes, I like boys, I must confess.
Mass murderer - that gave me fame.
Those buried corpses - what a mess.
Found under my house, rotting there.
Somebody surely planted them
To frame me. Life is so unfair.
The fix was in just to condemn
Me to die, and study my brain.
I wonder if now anyone
Lives in my house - my old domain
Where I once had oh so much fun.

I had live not dead boys en masse,
And my last words are, "kiss my ass."

Dead Run

The city ghetto is a place
Where no one's child should have to live.
A poor single parent must face
The truth of what I have to give,
To make it better for my child.
The truth is awful hard to find.
Meantime, my son starts going wild.
I lose him, body soul and mind
To the gang in the neighborhood.
They take him to a life of crime,
And he runs to nowhere that's good.
I know he's running out of time.

My only son ran the gang way.
And I buried my son today.

Maytag Tickle

A fire hazard is homeward found.
Maytag refrigerator brands
Are being recalled leap and bound
From millions of the kitchen lands.
In striving to refrigerate,
Some models get in overheat,
Proceeding to incinerate
The in and out - burn appetit.
Now here is what is really smiled
About this electric meltdown.
The Jolly Green Giant's so riled,
That burned on his face is a frown.

Hey Maytag Man - get off your butt.
You got fried fridges by the glut.

Be Probed

Georg Steinhauser, a scientist,
With nothing else better to do,
Spent 3 years on how I exist,
Probing family and friends too.
His findings, he wrote in a text,
And my story does not come cheap.
If one pays and is still perplexed
About me and my secrets deep,
Do not get all worked up inside.
Simply accept me as a gift,
Carry me for a while with pride.
Then pluck me, sending me adrift.

I'm awed by the attention spent
On me - called belly button lint.

Cited

I was driving my city bus
In a blowing blizzard of snow.
Two old ladies and me - just us.
They said we passed their house, and so
I stopped the bus and let them out,
And was walking them 'cross the road.
A pickup came at us. No doubt,
Not seeing us as we three strode.
I pushed the two out of the way.
The pickup smashed me up a lot.
I'll survive, but a long bed stay.
After all that - guess what I got?

In the hospital, when I woke -
A jaywalking ticket - no joke.

Family Acceptance

I was Mom and Dad's only child.
They raised me the best that they could.
I left for college. Things went wild.
My folks - they called it quits for good.
They divorced. Each got a new life.
Dad found a husband. They were wed.
And Mom got partnered with a wife.
It all so overwhelmed my head.
My traditional family
Had changed to one quite different.
But I was able within me
To make the best of what life sent.

Visiting with them, I would say
Mom and Dad seem happier, gay.

Discard

I've told you about my boyfriend,
But haven't told him about you.
I guess there's no need to pretend,
I think he'd dump me if he knew
I was Mom to a 4 year old.
This guy is perfect in my life.
I want him to have and to hold.
I know someday I'll be his wife.
I promised myself I would not
Let this man get away from me.
But to assure that, then I've got
To be rid of you - don't you see?

My little one - just go to sleep.
Mommy has a promise to keep.

Did Not Mean To

Tim, a handful at 3 years old.
I'd babysat for him before.
He knew he was too cute to scold,
But watching him could be a chore.
He could cause trouble, oh so fast.
Against the wall, he smashed my phone.
I chased him, catching him at last.
Shaking him, in an angry tone,
I told him he was a bad pain.
Doctors said later, shaking him
Must have caused bleeding in his brain.
I didn't mean to hurt you, Tim.

His last words, "I sorry," he said.
Then moments later, he was dead.

Armed for Mischief

At the Santa Monica Pier,
There is a sea aquarium.
It is a place where there appear
Those who don't get to swim like some.
So I thought that it would be nice
To let the water flow throughout,
Making a splashy paradise
For all creatures to swim about.
So pulling on a valve awhile,
It opened letting waters flood.
Watching the people brought a smile,
Cleaning up all that muck and mud.

A little arm twisting was done.
An octopus should share the fun.

Bullet Proof Hair

I'd broken up with my boy friend,
And had a weave done to my hair,
To try to help my broke heart mend.
My boyfriend said he still did care.
I knew he was lying to me,
And told him to get lost. I turned
And walked away, but suddenly,
There was a pop, and something burned
My hair weave. I watched the bum run.
Out of my hair, I pulled a slug,
That had been shot from his gun.
The cops are looking for his mug.

I guess I've got one more pet peeve -
Ex boyfriends shooting up my weave.

Paul Harvey

The 50's, riding in the car,
Just a kid, but he talked to me.
The 60's, news heard near and far
From him, as I drove teenagerly.
The 70's, I settled down.
Of family, he often spoke.
The 80's, from Chicago town,
He shared. I was divorced and broke.
The 90's, I got back on track,
And his was still a voice so strong.
2009, I could look back.
Six decades, and he was along.

At noon on the car radio,
Paul Harvey always in the know.

Call Hazard

My husband called on his cell phone.
We had been talking for a bit.
Suddenly, there's a sound unknown,
A pop. Then the connection quit.
When I did not get a call back,
I tried to call my husband, but
Nothing. Something was out of whack.
I felt a strange ache in my gut.
Later, police came to my door.
They said there'd been an accident.
My husband was found on the floor,
After an exploding event.

His phone just blew up, police said.
They were sorry. My husband's dead.

Unretired

After years of being retired,
I'm once again in the work force.
I feel lucky that I got hired,
And I'll do a good job, of course.
At first I thought it was a joke,
That my savings nest egg was gone.
Who was this Bernie Madoff bloke?
How could his swindle have gone on?
I have a lot of company,
Even some rich are less so now.
So, oh well, what will be will be.
I'll get through all of this somehow.

Since I'm 90, I've got no time
To fret on Madoff and his crime.
