Eyes on Baby Lemur - LP Zoo

A baby lemur, yes I be,
Born here at the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Lots of humans want to see me,
But I stick close to Mom - I do.
Maybe a girl, maybe a boy,
I've kept the humans wondering.
Watching the humans, I enjoy
These strange creatures, ever snooping.
Mom says the humans are close kin,
Being primates just like we are,
But unlike us, tend to butt in
And turned the world beyond bizarre.

Soon enough I'll explore, for sure,
The world I see beyond Mom's fur.

Room Service

I went to Jungle Jamboree
And booked a room in a hotel.
I asked for a view so to see
All flora and fauna real well.
I also asked for ceiling high,
So that I would not bump my head,
Cuz I am a very tall guy.
The ceiling okay, but instead
I got windowless bamboo walls,
And apologies from the staff.
It was this room or none at all,
"So, so sorry, Mr. Giraffe."

Soon I'll have a room with a view,
Cuz I'll chew right through this bamboo.

Wasps Away

Some wasps are focused parasites.
In caterpillars, eggs are laid.
Hatched larvae begin taking bites.
A disappearing act is made.
The caterpillar slowly dies,
Shrinking, becoming mummified,
Continuing as food supplies
For all the larvae still inside.
Within the husk, larvae pupate,
Chewing a hole out finally,
Leaving the host to rotting fate,
Emerging as adults wasps be.

As wasps evolve, they're more engrossed
In using humans as a host.

Eta Aquarids

The Eta Aquarids do be
Yearly meteor shower show,
April and May nightly to see,
As through the heavens Earth does go.
From Halley's Comet, a spin off
From the comet's trip by the sun,
Leaving a trail of  comet cough,
Passed through by the Earth's orbit run.
The blazing light show does appear,
As the Aquarids' pieces smash
Into Earth's upper atmosphere,
And burn up brightly in a flash.

Halley's Comet's reminding track,
"It will take time but I'll be back."

Cut Off Debate

Capital Punishment - the State
Kills convicted of heinous crime,
To be or not to be debate,
Accidents happen time to time.
Lady Justice holds scales and sword.
Public executions should be,
And the public viewing restored.
An election nationally,
An executioner with blade,
To travel the nation throughout,
And headless criminals be made.
Strong of arm and steel - no doubt.

Cruel and unusual be dead?
Not when justice cuts the behead.

DisMass

John Harvard was a man of God,
And on his deathbed gave money
For higher learning to be awed,
So - Harvard University.
"Truth for Christ and the Church" became
Its early motto, and of course
Harvard degrees got worldwide fame,
As having such distinguished force.
The devil likes to remind all
There is no time and place immune
To the uprising and downfall
Of higher learning in low tune.

Harvard is hosting a black mass.
Maybe Satan will burn some ass.

Out of Sight, Out of Mind

The U.S. justice system is
Still trying to win the drug war.
The guilty are sent off to priz,
Where any drug, guilty can score.
So when released, the druggie goes
Right back to bad habits, as though
Nothing has changed. The system knows
It's all an unjust waste for show.
High tech up the druggie convict,
Surveillance all the night and day.
Get treatment for the drug addict,
Who can be put to work to pay.

Non violent guilty of crime,
Let service not jail be the time.

Bo and the Our Girls

The Mrs. Prez is using clout
To "bring back our girls" world talk.
At first I thought it was about
The First Daughters. I was in shock.
I was a very relieved Bo.
The missing girls were not my own.
Could such an act ever be so?
More terror is becoming known.
Is any child safe anywhere,
Including the First Family?
Does any child face the nightmare
Of humans' inhumanity?

I ran to the First Daughters, and
Licked them lovingly on each hand.

Megamouth Shark

Just once in my watery life,
I came in contact with life form,
Humans - well known to cause such strife.
Avoiding humans is the norm.
Got caught up in a fishing net,
Down southern California way.
First megamouth shark captured yet.
I did not have too much to say.
They stuck a radio on me
To transmit that real deep I go.
So humans and I rarely see
Each other for long - doncha know!

Humans consume the world and all,
And their mouths are so very small.

Young Klipspringer - Lincoln Park Zoo

A baby klipspringer am I,
Means "rock jumper" in Africaan.
Of antelope, we're the small fry.
We don't get bigger than a swan.
We're herbivores, eating just plants,
Including all the succulents
That quench the thirsty circumstance
From water in the plant contents.
On tips of our hooves we stand,
To grab the rocks like suction cups.
Ever sure footedly we land,
As we go jumping downs and ups.

So come to the Lincoln Park Zoo.
I will jump on the rocks for you.

Freedom to be Dumb

The U.S.A. freedom of speech
Includes the freedom to speak dumb.
Conservies and Libbies do preach
Each others' word are so loathsome.
If only We the People got
Just silly words from either side,
But sadly talk talk comes a lot
With ugly do do putrified.
Of course the other side's to blame,
Be it spewed leftie or rightie.
That's just part of the hot air game.
We pay high price for spewing free.

Both Libbies and Conservies do
Dumb foot in the mouth stinkaroo.

Wrigley Field - 100

A hundred years old in the year
Two thousand fourteen - golly gee.
A seasoned soul of seasons dear.
The Windy City's gem you be,
Nestled away in the neighborhood,
Old fashioned, bleachered,  ivied charm,
Sporting the score that all is good
For any fan's long cheering arm.
Countless outs over innings done,
"There's always next year," heard a lot.
And golly gee, what a grand run,
You've made with all that glory got.

A century you have revealed
The Friendly Confines - Wrigley Field.

Spider Bride?

A wolf spider who is female,
Ever looking for the right mate,
But it is oft an iffy trail,
Endeavoring to copulate.
Sometimes the focus I do lack
Of passing on my DNA.
I make the male into a snack,
And get stuffed with food as foreplay.
Now after sex, the guys seem to
Expect us girls to them partake.
So if I focus then I do
Know which first move that I should make.

If Mr. Right, first mate then ate.
If Mr. Wrong, just ate, skip mate.

Racism Acquired

A new born babe is racist free.
Racist levels that fill one's mind
Come from others like family,
Flowing ever through humankind,
As long as stark races exist.
Seeking the minds ever to fill,
Racism does seek to persist.
Where it can flow, racism will.
Minds filled full will do racist acts.
From minds filled part way, racist speech.
Most often the racist attacks,
Thought after thought, while silent each.

Either a racist is or not,
Either by act or word or thought.

Leaf Frog - LP Zoo

I am called a leaf frog - guess why!
Yep - cuz I blend in like a leaf,
Waiting for a snack to come by,
To my delight, to the snack's grief.
An insect is such snack I seek,
And when it does roam close enough,
I give it my flicked tongue technique,
Stick on the snack and down I stuff
It to my tummy to digest.
I cannot chew, so blink my eyes,
So that my eyeballs are so pressed
To help push down my insect prize.

So why so happy do I be?
Becuz I do eat what bugs me.

The Keystone pipeline - yes or no.
The Prez has put the thing on hold.
He says to me, "You're lucky, Bo,"
"No favors to be bought and sold."
Unions say yes to pipeline jobs.
Environmentalists say no.
Some rich greenies with money gobs
Have threatened the Prez with veto
Of future funding for the Prez
Library, while union cronies
Send puff hot smoke signals that sez
Our way or on your ownies.

Too bad we can't get energy
From all the B.S. in D.C.

Feathered Gay

We are penguins with the lifestyle
Of being well dressed up gay males -
Occurs in nature once in a while,
Odd match with matched white tie and tails.
We want to start a family,
And did try hard to copulate.
Parts fit anatomically,
But no eggs came from either mate.
We considered stealing an egg,
But knew the other penguins would
Be fired up like a powder keg,
And our fate would not be good.

Of all the options we could opt,
We have decided to adopt.

He Got the House

It was a December/May match.
I was December. He was May.
Though a bit gray, I was a catch
In a sexy maternal way.
Lady of the evening, yes,
I tried for sake of family,
But he came to me less and less.
I knew he wanted to trade me
In for a newer model, plus
He would get the love nest - no yarn!
Though humans do it more than us,
Barn owls do break up in the barn.

Instinctively, I knew of course,
My mate had chosen to divorce.

Rank Risk

A racist rant privately made
Finds its way to the public ear,
Not an outcome the ranter weighed,
When public outrage does appear.
The rant is protected free speech,
And is a rant said legally,
But public ear the rant did reach,
The ranter is proclaimed guilty.
Since the public is civilized,
No stoning in the public square,
The ranter is just ostracized.
Private racist ranters - beware.

Public opinion good is got -
Private opinion bad is caught.

The End of Wilderness

Filmmakers film the wilderness,
In hope that such will help persuade
To preserve more, to destroy less.
But where there's money to be made,
The profiteers will find a way
In any wilderness there is
To ravage nature for pay day,
Past, present, future - human biz.
Preserving nature - some do try
To save the wilderness' dire fate.
But greed is winning by and by.
For wilderness, it is too late.

Too soon all wilderness will be
Just on old films for folks to see.

Painted Turtle Romance

A painted turtle, I did fall
In love with an Illini girl.
And often to her I would call
To give a life with me a whirl.
She liked my brightly colored shell.
Cupid's arrow took right on aim.
At last she just said, "What the hell!"
And into the water she came.
And a shape shifting came to be,
No longer the tribe chief's daughter,
She turned into painted like me.
Two turtles bound in the water.

Be a painted turtle - females,
And skip painting your fingernails.

The origin of plastic name
Is Latin and Greek for to mold.
From petrochemicals it came,
Took a while but humans got sold
On molding of plastic into
Ev'ry form and fashion for use,
Then dumping as humans do do,
More careless with plastic abuse.
All the world is plastically
Becoming an uglier form.
More and more plastic all will be,
Cuz hooked on plastic is the norm.

Plastic, plastic - everywhere,
Molding all water, land and air.

Maybe Mrs. Jesus?

On a scrap of papyrus tiz
A "my wife" reference which does
Stick the Church in some messy biz,
If this is Jesus writing cuz
That would infer Jesus had sex.
Is that how the Savior should act?
Such a thought for the Church does vex.
Oh God, please don't let it be fact!
The "my wife" refers to the Church,
That's how Churchites put out the spin.
Jesus sought not sex but soul search.
The rest get to do sex and sin.

The question is - does Jesus' wife
Nag him in everlasting life?

The Brazen Bull

The Tyrant ordered a machine
Be built to burn in such a way
That fear and pain forged 'twixt and 'tween,
Roasting the victim in do slay.
And thus the Brazen Bull did be,
Made out of bronze to hold the heat
Inside with screams of agony
Until the body burned complete.
The Brazen Bull, the Tyrant's friend
Turned to ashes the Tyrant's foe.
Ever tyranny, ever end,
For tyrants come and tyrants go.

Where oh where could the Tyrant hide?
The Brazen Bull beckoned inside.

Grim Taxing Tale

Once upon a time, I.R.S.,
The gov did render obsolete,
A flat ten percent assess
On We the People - bills to meet.
Nothing to exempt or deduct,
No incentives to evade tax,
No bucking fairly being bucked,
No more complex games to the max.
But the tale We live in won't end
As a children's fairy tale should.
Govvies talk good, but just pretend.
Gov prefers tax bad to tax good.

We get shafted by gov shafter,
To live helpless ever after.

Good as Gold

The Golden Rule has been around
As long as there's been humankind,
More precious than gold to be found,
To bind a body, soul and mind,
To live a life in such a way,
Creator of the universe
Will be there for me night and day,
Times through better and times through worse.
But ever helping me know true,
Whether happy or whether sad.
If bad unto is what I do,
And I do unto others - Bad!

Do unto others as I would
Have others do unto me - Good!

The who We were got really mixed.
The what We did made lots of doubt,
With so much do do politixed.
We cannot seem to get past past.
We have to have a "Them" to blame.
Bubbles of winning never last.
We continue to lose the game.

Colorered by outside, Black and White,
Slanted by inside, Left and Right.

Earth is billions of years old.
Humans are relatively  new
Occupants if truth be told,
And bad occupants - yes, tiz true.
In 1970, some did
Ordain an annual Earth Day
To celebrate the Earth amid
Using the Earth like an ashtray.
But even that one day a year
More bad than good is done to Earth.

Humans will never be of worth.

Harm is all humans can inflict.
Earth is preparing to evict.

Do it while holding just one hand.

Howard Hughes

He was born with a silver spoon,
And turned that spoon into more gold,
Became the world's richest tycoon,
Doing his big biz brash and bold.
Sexist, bigot, anti Semite,
He gave millions to charity.
A darling of both left and right,
Oh how eccentric he could be.
Malnutritioned, hooked on drugs,
Just 90 pounds of filth and sweat,
Swearing he was covered with bugs,
He died aboard his private jet.

He's remembered a poor rich guy,
Howard Hughes - what money can't buy.
