Ferguson of a Gun

For reasons that are not yet clear,
The white cop did kill the black teen,
At least six shots from rage or fear,
And Ferguson hit the world scene.
The Prez' vacation took a hit,
But words of hope and change did not
Hope and change Ferguson one bit.
A bunch of black pain had been shot.
If only the white cop had let
The black teen stay alive and well.
Cops should act perfect - don't forget.
Any color cop's job is hell.

White cop kills black teen - it's a shame,
Interrupted the Prez' golf game.

Daxin the One - LP Zoo

I am Daxin, the birthday boy.
Mom did birth me a year ago.
A creme colored bundle of joy,
I'm now mostly black - whaddya know!
Now if I were a girl, I would
Turn back to creme, when I would be
Reaching my future adulthood
At sexual maturity.
But now I'm just a kid all round,
With Mom, Dad and big brother Sai,
A fam'ly unit tightly bound.
I know I am one lucky guy.

Lincoln Park Zoo - I count for fun.
Daxin, the gibbon, - number one.

Smithsonian

John Smithson was born illegit.
English nobility did sire.
But John got wealth and lots of it,
And bad mouthed the British empire.
So when the British lost the war
To Americans, he cheered.
Where kings and dukes and lords no more.
Where We the People had appeared.
A new land needed help from old,
A tree of knowledge to bear fruit.
In John's will a plan did unfold -
The Smithsonian Institute.

America's "attic" did be
Thanks to illegitimacy.

Death Penalty Quick Fix

Modern capital punishment,
Injecting lethal drugs into
The baddies are now too frequent
All botched up and messy to do.
Cruel and unusual the charge,
Putting death penalty at risk,
Letting the baddies live at large,
Maybe be bad again - tsk tsk!
Yes, shooting drugs to put asleep
For human crimes is deemed humane.
But screwing it up - what the "bleep"!
Justice - less fancy and more plain.

Back to basics - quick legal dead -
Blade in the hand - off with the head.

Gold Fold

Humans have given "golden" to
Name some animals that are gold.
Just found, the golden bat is new.
Gold snakes have been known since times old.
There is the golden marmoset.
There is the golden tamarin.
The golden frog stays gold when wet,
And gold fish with the golden fin.
The golden monarch butterfly.
Golden beetles and spiders jump.
Golden weaver bird in the sky.
Tegu lizard - gold head to rump.

A human that is golden clad?
A "golden girl" James Bond once had.

First Lesson

The lion did once rule as king,
When humans were just starting out.
Lions upon humans could bring
A lot of fear and hurt - no doubt!
But then the humans with more brain
Made weapons against lion brawn.
Just thousands of lions remain.
Billions of humans weapon on.
Lion cubs that be born still act
As the kings that lions once were.
But grown up lions teach the fact,
Humans are bad news - him and her.

The modern lesson in each pride,
Beware of humans be the guide.

Do Good Loop

Do a good deed and give some cash
To a charity thought worthwhile,
And just that single do good splash
Will bring a flood in request pile.
Charity competition is
Intense for each and ev'ry buck.
Solicitation is big biz.
Don't wanna be bothered - good luck!
Yes, some do feel it's punishment
As constant means to do give end.
But enough feel it's compliment
Or guilt, and thus their cash they'll send.

No good deed goes unpunished when
The do gooder might do again.

Bad Choice

If o'er the last two hundred years,
The world resources spent on war,
In which nobody profiteers,
Instead was spent finding cures for
Diseases plagueing humankind.
And sharing with the world all round
Whatever cures that we may find.
All together we should be bound.
The humans who have not, at least
Should get the cures the haves have got
For physical ills of the beast.
Have humanity, wars have not.

To cure all world disease, we could.
But by nature we're bad, not good.

Mixed Up

Home of the brave, land of the free
Is said to be the U.S.A.
We the People, all peoples be.
A nation of laws, people say.
But laws be passed by people, so
Some laws be good, some laws be bad.
Some rights too high, some wrongs too low.
Do We still have what We have had?
We have peoples from all worldwide,
Who want the dreams that We make real.
As generations lived and died,
To the whole world We have appeal.

We the People, We be diverse.
Will We be better or be worse?

Mr. Sandcat - LP Zoo

Mr. Sandcat, I am a dream
Meow, meow, meow, meow.
I am the cutest cat extreme.
Meow, meow , meow, meow.
Cat napping at Lincoln Park Zoo.
Meow, meow, meow, meow.
A real super visit to do.
Meow, meow, meow, meow.
I may be snoozing but will be
Dreaming lots of sweet dreams of how
Happy you are just to see me.
And for that a thank you meow.

I am a dream, Mr. Sandcat.
Come visit and verify that.

Literately

A kid of mine does get home schooled.
This Mom is hands on in this job.
The young mind needs to get fine tooled
To fix the world's problems agob.
Such a tool is literature,
Expressing others' mattered mind.
Even though one is never sure
What's going on with humankind.
I ask my kid to read to me,
To share the knowledge we both yearn.
It is as useful as can be.
My gorilla kid loves to learn.

This Mom always has time to hear
Her home schooled kid reading Shakespeare.

Versed on Love

How do I love thee - let me think.
I'm bananas for you - a bunch.
Your mango sweetness peeled I drink,
Till drunk upon your passion punch.
Cupid's arrow pierces my bod,
Sending love potion to my heart,
Where the amorous waves do prod
My pondering of where thou art,
Be it hither or be it yon,
To win you over place and time,
And you and I can get it on.
So let me think of a love rhyme.

Nothing says love like a sonnet,
And this adoring chimp's on it.

Polar Practice

I'm practicing for the big game
Of polo played at the north pole.
The ponies bolted - that's a shame.
I mount a rock to get the goal.
Now I suppose humans will say
I must be a bipolar bear,
Manic about wanting to play
Polo, for which I do prepare.
I need no mallet for my shot.
In chukker time I use my paws.
Never a penalty I've got.
The umps bear with me, well because...

So c'mon and giddy up rock.
Game on for this polo bear jock.

Zebra Zooing

Zebra is what humans call me.
Heard a lot at Lincoln Park Zoo,
The place where I am meant to be,
Cuz I have so much work to do.
To be a star covered in stripes,
Set side by side in black and white,
To symbolize that dif'rent types
Can be together joined just right.
I hope when humans visit here.
I am to nature's best a link.
I look down but I hear them cheer,
As I refresh and take a drink.

I sense the human sights and sounds.
This Zebra at this Zoo sez, "Zounds!"

Ebolaizing the mindset
With media on the fast track
To sell the public fear and fret.
First time ever the virus is
Flown over to the U.S.A.!
Is big gov minding public biz?
Who knows if the virus might stray?
Not just in some African poor,
The virus might decide to share
With We the People - up the score.
Thank goodness for Obamacare.

Ebola terror is best spread
Among the humans head to head.

Lie On in Peace

A lioness, I hunt at night,
And like to cat nap during day.
Tiz interrupted when I sight
A human kid right where I lay.
Why is this kid here all alone.
My maternal instincts kick in.
Humans have puny flesh and bone,
But lots of stupid in thin skin.
Maybe if I ignore the kid,
And try hard to get back to sleep,
This nuisance kid will just self rid.
I'll hope for the best. What the "bleep"!

If this human had some more meat,
Maybe I would get up to eat.

Calico Lobster

To New Hampshire, when I was caught
In the Atlantic in July,
A calico lobster bright blot -
Black, brown, red, orange, blue, green - but why?
An oddity that humans are
So far just curious about.
I think that humans are bizarre
On differing colors - no doubt.
My genes or my environment?
I guess I be just what I be,
Now an attraction evident
For curious humans to see.

Be let loose after Labor Day?
Can I believe what humans say?

So much for a piglet to do,
Many human crowds to delight
At Lincoln Park Farm in the Zoo.
But Mama keeps me in her sight.
She knows the showoff that I am,
Running around in boundless zeal.
Yes, I be a bit of a ham,
Seeking attention with my squeal.
When Mama oinks I need to rest,
I know the choice that I should choose,
Cuz what I know - Mama knows best.
I take some time out for a snooze.

How does Mama get me to sleep?
She tells me pig tales - a whole heap.

Kiddy Meal - LP Zoo

Humans do eat too much junk food,
And not enough veggies and fruit.
Unhealthy tummies do protrude
In such junky diet pursuit.
Feeding at the Lincoln Park Zoo
For the non humans - all age gap,
Consists of the best health menu,
While humans eat a lot of crap.
Non human kids do like to eat
Food that the human kids whine 'bout.
Fruits and veggies are the true treat,
And human kids are dumb - no doubt.

Want a kid that likes brocolli?
Get a gorilla kid like me.

The Old Timer Pallas' Cat - LP Zoo

I am the Pallas' cat. Behold
Unique me at Lincoln Park Zoo.
My kind are 12 million years old.
We have survived the eons through.
Mainly because we live up high
In Asian countries remotely,
That we were not much bothered by
Threats until the humans did be,
And killed because the humans could.
Evolving in short time, all place,
Spreading sick bad to leave no good.
Will we survive the human race?

Watching humans, I could be wrong,
But how you live, you won't last long.

For Want of a Great War

It started with a single kill
Of throne heir Archduke Ferdinand
Of Austria, causing ill will
With Serbia, cuz understand,
A Serb was one who fired the shot.
So those two countries went to war.
Russia joined with Serbia's lot.
Germany, to even the score,
Joined with Austria, and then came
France and Britain and Italy...
A single death was said to blame
For ten million more deaths to be.

History calls it World War I.
No doubt the world is still not done.

Avocado Plays the Field

An avocado like me does
Rely on bugs that fly about,
To take a shot at me becuz
They pollinate so I can sprout
The fruit that keeps my kind around.
Yes, I make fruit that humans crave,
But as long as there's bugs abound,
There's still plenty of fruit to save
The avocado from go - gone.
The bugs are not monagamous.
They pick all plants to get it on.
Avocados just ask, "Pick us!"

Quickies by all bugs make new
The fruit that avocados do.

Who is the fairest of them all?

Thick lashed eyes that so wink and bat
To make the eyer ooh and aah.
A dainty nose that's just right flat,
Nostrils enticing without flaw.
And lips that pucker moist and sweet.

Is much too hot and too small be.

To cure his sadness - yes or no?

Riling up the powers that be.
Later, Christians with power more
Went on their own persecute spree.
In the U.S., the Christian right
Crusades against the devel's mix
Of souless, sinful appetite,
Playing the game of politics,
Now using tricks of Hollywood
To splice the persecution scene.
Left is evil and right is good.
Anti Christians are just so mean.

If Jesus ever does come back?

Lots of gangs call Chicago home,
Terrorizing the neighborhoods,
Gunning through all the streets they roam,
Young killer thugs up to no goods.
Most residents aid and abet,
Hoping just to be left alone,
Daily under the gang death threat
Of living in a real war zone.
The war on terror need be fought
Less in foreign lands, more right here.
How many innocents be shot
Before true defense does appear?

Whatever colors the gangs be,
Color them the true enemy.

She said she was in fix it work,
And got the hammer from some guy
Who turned into a macho jerk.
And so the marvel of it all
Was that the hammer passed to her.
And now she was ever on call
To fix troubles as may occur.

Will I marry this girl next door?
I asked her name. She replied, "Thor."

Class Act - Lincoln Park Zoo

Field trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo,
My fourth grade class watched a corn snake
Having some lunch just like we do,
But nothing to fry or to bake.
Instead, an unthawed frozen mouse,
The snake was consuming for lunch.
So focused at the Reptile House
Was my normally rowdy bunch.
When back in the classroom, I would
Struggle for kids' attentiveness.
So I'm wondering how I could
Learn from secrets that snakes possess.

Such class attention would be nice.
Maybe I should swallow some mice.

To see if news I'd heard was fact.
A gin and tonic in my hand,
I had drunk several, I think.
My eyes were a bit blurry, and
I stumbled and I spilled my drink.
But 'twas a time in history,
A matter over my fogged mind.
Maybe a drunken step for me,
But "one giant leap for mankind."

I looked and looked and looked, and soon,
Yes, I saw that man in the moon.

Hanging upside down during sleep.
And then when night time comes about,
There is no need to upward leap.
I just let go and start to fall,
Spread my wings, and the air lifts me,
Back up to soar to dinner call,
