 "The Bells"

"The Bells" is poem written by

Edgar Allan Poe, deemed his last,

And published after Poe did die.

From light to dark the poem passed.

Perhaps the ringing of the bells,

Happy and hopeful in youth time,

But becoming as death foretells,

Sounding bleaker in mournful rhyme.

When Poe did write "The Bells," his wife

Had been dead for about a year,

And maybe he did know his life

Was about done and end was near.

Whatever "The Bells" meant for Poe

He left for us to seek to know.
