Columbus' Syzygy Trick
Chris Columbus, as story goes,
Marooned in Jamaica with crew,
When trouble with natives arose,
On stopping the food supply due.
An almanac Chris had, told of
A lunar eclipse in three days.
So Chris threatened, the moon above,
He'd take away, if food displays
Weren't brought him by the natives soon.
The natives balked, the syzygy
Began, earth between sun and moon,
Earth's shadow making moon dark be.
When Columbus "brought the moon back,"
The natives cheered and brought forth snack.
