 A Quilter

Dwight D. Eisenhower be

A quilter in his younger days,

Helping mother, Ida, as she

Encouraged Dwight's work with her praise.

A tumbling block quilt that they made

Is still a cover on a bed.

In Ike's birthplace home it's displayed

As a future President's spread.

Many a quilt was pieced and done

In their simple, humble home by

Eisenhower mother and son,

With love and skill both did apply.

Quilting with Mom helped Ike indeed

Learn patience he would later need.

 Wear and Pair

A picture of a hug and kiss

By a young couple is meant to

Advertise some clothing on this

Couple to seek to sell that who

Ever wears these clothes can also

Reach such passion shown by this pair.

All who purchase these clothes will know

Pure ecstasy because they wear

The clothes designed to make the make

For wearers any time and place,

Well outfitted for romance sake,

And no wrinkling from hot embrace.

I scrutinize the pic and scoff,

"When couple couples, clothes go off!"

 Depressive Heat

Politicians and bureaucrats

I'm doomed to hear most everywhere,

Depressing me with all their chats,

Spinning lies out in their hot air,

Enveloping me in foul heat.

Mass media aids and abets

For my attention to compete,

Leaving me with vexing regrets

That I allowed myself once more

To be recipient of blow

From government blowhards galore,

Causing more depression I show.

Buffoons of politics I tell.

"Take you hot air and go to hell."

 Romance of Poe

"Romance," a poem Poe did write

In respite from horror and gore

Makes romance for him much more light,

First as a parakeet before

Poe had matured and still a child,

Teaching him the words to belie

While being in such woods so wild.

But when Poe's older, unknown why,

Romance into a condor turned,

Aggressively pursuing Poe,

Instilling a passion that burned,

Perhaps something he should not know.

So Poe concluded with his rhyme,

Romance flew at him like a crime.

 Feline Design

The Amur leopard, name for me,

The rarest big cat in the world,

Cautious so others do not see,

Sometimes prowling and sometimes curled.

Very few of us in the wild,

In the Russia mountains homeland.

Long golden furred with black spots styled,

And bushy tail that sways so grand.

One of the smallest big cats though,

Up a tree I can carry weight

Thrice as heavy as me, I go.

Don't carry it down, cuz it's ate.

So if I'm hungry, and comes you,

Then up a tree may climb us two.

 Pond to Ponder

Try to let my mind be a pond,

Each and every feeling a fish,

Can better let me to respond

More calmly and less outlandish.

For any time and any place

Different feelings come and go,

Be glad or mad or sad, each case

A fish swimming in my mind flow.

If be the pond I'm mindful of,

And stay in non judgmental state,

Then I may observe from above,

And not get in a caught up fate.

Sometimes I've a bad day at school

When I forget to be pond rule.

 Just Fly Away

Along came a spider, you sing

In your whining tone, calling me

Evil woman you were running

With, cuz caught in my web you be,

Where I filled you with candy lies,

While eating you up as your fate,

Just like I do with all you flies,

Who I entrap as willing mate.

But now you whine the same sad song

That our relationship is done,

Becuz I done you oh so wrong.

But you keep coming back, dumb one.

So fly away, you little fly,

No more taste for such sour guy.

 Awkward Laughter

Zoom meeting with my company,

Everybody was listening to

A presentation made by me.

A good job I sure hoped to do.

Could mean promotion if done well.

I feared public speaking a gob,

And had anxiety like hell,

So focused to do a good job.

The company president rose,

Forgetting, I guess, that he had

No pants on, as his bareness shows,

I laugh uncontrollably bad.

Stop laughing was a failed pursuit.

I had to put myself on mute.

 Killing Time

In a box of plastic bags, I

Was taken by folks on a boat,

Filled with garbage in packed supply,

I was tossed in the sea to float.

Not long after, a young male whale

Thought I was food and swallowed me.

I was the cause of him to ail,

Cuz in his gut, blockage I be.

Death took a long and painful while.

Now at sea bottom he does rot.

Still stuck in his system, so I'll

Just be patient, cuz time I've got.

When from this whale carcass I pop,

Maybe float back to the sea top.

 A Turtle Failure

Some say the earth is on the back

Of a giant turtle to go

Through space and time on cosmic track

Till inner peace all earthlings know.

And so evolves the humankind.

Science and religion both be

Abused to twist the human mind

To trip too much too selfishly.

The giant turtle had to tell

Fellow reptile aliens that

Carrying this world became hell,

With earth a worthless habitat.

This turtle's telling earth above,

Too weighted down by hate, not love.

 The Hummingbird and the Sunflower

Nectarivore, the hummingbird,

A lover of nectar indeed.

So with the sunflower occurred,

Benefitting mutual need,

This flower liking this bird for

Pollinating ability,

And in turn gives nectar galore,

The hummingbird's pure ecstasy.

So over the whole summer, these

Two do encounter often so

One and the other, each do please,

Giving and taking to bestow.

Sometimes a lucky human may

Photograph these two on display.

 My Purpose Fulfilled

The bakery's open late at night.

Since early morn here on the shelf

I've sat as others, left and right,

All have gone and I'm by myself.

My comrades succeed but I fail.

I have to wonder how and why,

Sitting alone and growing stale.

In sprinkle spurts I start to cry.

I feel the hole within me get

Bigger and emptier I am.

The shop door opens, there's hope yet,

As the excitement fills my jam.

This donut leaves the bakery shop,

Late night snack for on duty cop.

 Flowers Then Shoes

Prompt of a flower prompted me

To think of the hibiscus one.

But when the prompt changed to shoes be,

Hibiscus verse can still be done,

Cuz in Asia another name

For hibiscus be shoe flower,

Cuz the petals were ground in aim

For black shoe polishing power.

Thus hibiscus for a long time

Had petals ground into black hues,

Prompting my shoe flower in rhyme,

From flower prompt to prompt of shoes.

So pen a poem I done do,

Prompted by flower then by shoe.

 Because of Me

"Love me my Guinevere," you'd plead.

"Stay close by my side," you'd beg me.

I knew you loved me, yes indeed.

But true to you I could not be.

You were my lord, my king, but I

Could not be faithful as your queen.

Lancelot I loved, I won't deny.

With you and I, he came between.

Then you, my king, and he, my love,

Because of me, began a war.

Filled with the sorrow and the blame of

This, I could not love anymore.

I returned to you when I died.

Lancelot buried me by your side.

 Hectic

It was a hectic time and place

For Mom and Dad and family.

Daily unknowns we had to face,

Some natural, some manmade be.

First came the drought, then came the flood.

We had no way to run and hide.

Went from thirsty to stuck in mud.

Then came the bugs. then pesticide,

Which burned us where we were not ate.

Then Mom and Dad told us we would

Yet have to face more hectic fate,

When bad tractors would bring no good.

We were all told by Dad and Mom,

"Family, lettuce romaine calm."

 Too Early Bird

Thankfully remembered to set

For job as cock-a-doing cock.

Up before dawn I had to get.

Needed to put my glasses on

To make some instant coffee to

Try to fully wake to by dawn,

In time to do my cock-a-do,

Or else my boss, Old Farmer, will

Be firing my feathered self for sure,

And I'll no longer be top bill

Around the coop. a henless sir.

This morning I'm a cranky fowl,

Stayed up too late like a night owl.

 Outer Beauty and Inner Beast

In the late sixteenth century

A Hungarian countess be

Was renowned for her beauty true.

For her youthful beauty to stay,

Maidens to the countess were brought,

Each of whom she'd torture and slay,

And take the blood from each she got

To fill a bath, which she'd soak in,

From many maidens, young and fresh,

Committing such atrocious sins,

Preserving beauty of her flesh.

With both beauty and beast combined.

 Call to Attack

As Mister Red Winged Blackbird, I

Have the job to defend the nest.

So around the nest I do fly,

Sing "chak chak chak" to any pest

Who I deem as coming too near

To the nest where the Missus is,

Tending the young'uns with us here.

The Missus always minds my biz,

And if she feels my defense be

Not up to high standards she's set,

Then she's inclined to replace me,

And deal herself with latest threat.

I hear the Missus "chak chak chak,"

Telling all she's gonna attack.

Being a "bad" girl, Mae was good.

With her line of living life right,

A lot of sexy lines she had,

Sharing on T.V. with delight.

 Mr. Osbourne

Mr. Osbourne, how flattering

That you should sing a song of me.

And your white horse of which you sing,

I miss those rides that used to be.

But alas, heeding Satan's call,

"Mr. Crowley, with me come dwell,"

I gave up lifestyle pleasures all,

No mood altering drugs in hell.

I know you want to know so much

Of what I meant by this or that.

Let's wait until we're more in touch,

Neighbors in Satan's habitat.

Now witch in charge real old and mean.

Full of envy and full of hate

For me the other witches had.

But no way could any equate

With bettering me being bad.

Unfortunately for me, they

Pooled their power into one spell,

Put upon me in focused way,

That I was sent straight down to hell.

Their pooled spell was too much for me.

Just a has been witch I now be.

Death riding upon a pale horse,

Who did proclaim that finally

All humankind die in due course.

And a wild beast would play role prime

In carrying a sickness that

Would be contagious over time

To all the human habitat.

Bubonic plague and Covid were

Precursors to the coming ill

That from a wild beast will occur,

The Revelation to fulfill.

From a wild beast sickness be spread

Till all Earth's human life be dead.

 War Game

The Bible says that if war's just

As deemed a necessary must

For good to be and evil not.

So not surprising through time all,

Each new war is just comes the call,

More power being just the aim.

The Bible says on Judgement Day,

Human powers and powerless,

To heaven or to hell, which way?

All are pawns in this game of chess.

As Satan laughs and yells, "Checkmate!"

 Trip Through the Trees

Through a forest of white birch trees

Allowing the passage through with ease

For all who be afoot like me.

I remember well first time that

I walked this pathway finding out

This be a favored habitat

For moose to be in and about.

I encountered a young moose calf,

Got too close, and then Mama came.

Maybe both of them had a laugh

As fast escape was my prime aim.

And so my lesson of the day,

Any moose has the right of way.

"Cat got your tongue?" I oft would hear

You say to me when you thought I

Was too quiet when I'd appear,

And just stare at you from nearby.

But now for two days you've not said

A word to me and never will,

Cuz from old age you just dropped dead

On the kitchen floor where you're still.

Just the two of us in the house.

I can't find any food about.

None store bought and nary a mouse.

But there you lie, tongue hanging out.

Yes, this cat's got your tongue, old sweet,

Cuz I'm hungry and gotta eat.

 Good Gaslighter

Mom made me go to church with her.

During the sermon it occurred,

The sound of which I knew for sure.

Mom let out a loud fart I heard.

After church, driving us home, Mom

Asked why I kept giggling so.

When I told her, she remained calm,

And told me that she did not know

Why I would make up such a tale

To punish her and make her sad.

Something inside my head must ail

To make me treat my Mom so bad.

I accepted this truth to be,

Mom was good at gaslighting me.

 Last Laugh

Laughing at my mistake I'd heard

Was a way to lengthen my life,

But shorten it could be assured,

Laughing at mistakes of my wife.

So when my wife made a mistake,

As she was often prone to do,

And it was funny for gosh sake,

I'd laugh later, she never knew.

But then that later came one day

When I laughed, but unknown to me,

She overheard, to my dismay,

My last living mistake to be.

I laugh at my mistake I made,

As into the ground I am laid.

It was a dark and stormy night.

A power outage had occurred.

Safe in my room in candlelight,

Lightning is seen and thunder heard.

Unable to sleep, I did take

A favorite book down from the shelf

For good company while awake,

As I read aloud to myself.

Each poem I read, I knew so well,

And with such foul weather outside,

I felt inspired me to excel,

Reading each poem aloud with pride.

A time and place I enjoyed so,

Poetry shared with Mr. Poe.

A favorite in heaven high.

Exalted pride caused him to aim

To take all power, so did try

With his supporters to wage war.

Archangel Michael was sent to

Battle Lucifer and restore

Back in heaven harmony true.

As armies of each angel stood,

Michael and Lucifer did fight.

Michael victorious for good,

Lucifer banned to dark from light.

From deep despair to joyful bliss.

The royal doctors feared that I

Causing more illness for the King.

Because too soon the tears did be.

Together we'd no longer stay.

 Summer Dream

I've come to Italy to roam

The length and width of the whole boot

To find you, right now I'm in Rome

In a garden in your pursuit.

A threatening thunderstorm passed by.

Now a warm, sunny day does please.

White puffy clouds dance 'cross blue sky.

Sweet scent I smell of citrus trees,

Which the birds and the bees do share.

On my guitar I strum the sound

To float on breezes through the air,

And hope you'll hear we two be bound.

Just so you know, I'm dreaming of

This summer we will fall in love.
