Sense Sonnet - Pumper
A Quilter
Dwight D. Eisenhower be
A quilter in his younger days,
Helping mother, Ida, as she
Encouraged Dwight's work with her praise.
A tumbling block quilt that they made
Is still a cover on a bed.
In Ike's birthplace home it's displayed
As a future President's spread.
Many a quilt was pieced and done
In their simple, humble home by
Eisenhower mother and son,
With love and skill both did apply.
Quilting with Mom helped Ike indeed
Learn patience he would later need.
