Let the Last Laugh Be Mine

This is Captain Ahab and I

With my log have no other choice,

Since away from my ship, but try

To make my last entry by voice,

And hope it's heard by my first mate

To then be logged that I have found

Myself tied to ironic fate.

By my own harpoon rope I'm bound

To my nemesis, Moby Dick,

Who with his tongue will soon take me

Into his mouth with one foul flick,

Then a snack for Moby I'll be.

And so I wish with my last breath,

I cause this whale to choke to death.

 Miracle for Me

As a young kid I once did peek

In a puddle and saw that I

Was what as a grownup I did seek,

An astronaut in unknown sky,

Exploring where no human had.

But on this mission, marooned now

In deep space, my outcome looks bad.

Maybe some miracle somehow.

Then suddenly appears a light,

A portal opens in the black,

For me a miraculous sight,

As a young kid is looking back.

And pulled through that portal I be

By the young kid who, yes, was me!

 White Knight

Into some fog the white owl flew.

Deciding a rest would be good

Until a clear sky would renew,

The white owl landed in a wood.

And right away happened upon

A lovely damsel in distress.

So to her the white owl was drawn

For possible aid to assess.

The damsel had taken a fall,

Causing her ankle to be sprained.

Already she'd made a phone call,

And forthcoming help was attained.

To assure the damsel's safety,

The white owl kept her company.

 Muddy Waters

Prisoner of his I did be,

Kept in a bathtub in his house.

Though very nice he treated me,

I still considered him a louse

For taking me against my will

From my home and all that I knew.

At first the fear of him did fill

Me, but fear left and anger grew,

Until time came I pulled him down

In the tub water where he stayed

In my firm grip as he did drown,

And rid of him was this mermaid.

But I haven't any notion

How I'll get back to the ocean.

 Squidward

Squidward Quincy Tentacles, I

Am an octopus not a squid.

Ask the human who made me why,

So make do with what that guy did.

I'm colored turquoise and like that.

But don't like Patrick or Spongebob,

Both Conch Street neighbors where I'm at,

And both annoying me a gob.

At Krusty Krab restaurant I be

A cashier, and a job for sure

Which is certainly beneath me,

Again that human, so endure.

I'm self absorbed as humans are,

So could become this cartoon's star.

 Orange Juice

You say your party's slowed down some.

In the kitchen there's kids' orange juice

For me so I'll feel more welcome.

Yes, I'm sober, that's my excuse

For saying your party is not

Any time and place I should be.

Why put at risk the joy I've got

Now living in sobriety!

I choose not to take any chance

That my going back would

End in the same sad song and dance

That we both shared, and to no good.

I have my own orange juice and do

Wish a happier life for you.

 Musical Chores

Back in the day when Momma would

Wash the family's clothes by hand,

For the family, time was good

For Poppa with his guitar and

Young son and daughter to all be

Together with Momma and bring

Her joy, keeping her company.

A time and place for all to sing,

Especially songs favorite of

Momma, sung as she worked her chore,

Filling the family with love.

Each washday would bring an encore.

Family got clean clothes to wear,

As their shared music filled the air.

 The Clue from the Cat

"Look what the cat dragged in," I said

To Hubby as I returned from

Shopping, and found Hubby in bed.

My return I sensed not welcome.

At the open window he glanced,

Then back at me quite nervously,

As I stood in menacing stance,

Holding what the cat gifted me,

Waving in front of Hubby's face,

Surely not the normal dead mouse,

But evidence in Hubby's case

That he was just a cheating louse.

It was the last thing Hubby saw,

As strangled with his girlfriend's bra.

 Tale of Jonah

My favorite Bible tale be

Jonah is saved from drowning when

Swallowed by a big fish at sea,

And prays to God to forgive sin

For not doing as God had bid.

God hears his prayers and does forgive.

The big fish burps, out Jonah slid,

And thanks to God's mercy does live.

As a young child in Sunday School,

My favorite this tale because

For teaching me that God's good rule,

Follow should always be my aim.

But anytime at sea, I doubt

If a big fish would burp me out.

 A Working Gal

The car possessed, I am Christine,

Back on the road and self employed,

Rides in a driverless machine.

I try not to get so annoyed

With the humans, cuz most just are

A helpless, hopeless piece of junk.

So now when gets in this car,

My attitude from hood to trunk

Is customer is always right,

Unless, until I am done wrong,

Which turn signals an awful fight

For whoever's riding along.

A perfect ride if I'm tipped well,

Otherwise rider goes through hell.

 Cottonfield Monarch

"King Cotton" was the rally cry

That southern states should not fear war

With northern states of U.S. - why?

Because cotton was needed more

By European industry,

Especially England and France.

And so for the South there would be

Their foreign aid for the best chance

To win the war, beating the North.

But the North's navy blockade stopped

The South from shipping cotton forth,

And so no aid Europe did opt.

The U.S. Civil War did cost

"King Cotton's" throne when the South lost.

 Barely Visible

Archimedes, Greek good at math,

Yells, "Eureka," figuring out

Displacement, and jumps from his bath.

He is quite excited no doubt,

And runs from his house to the street,

His math solution to tell all.

But everybody he does meet,

Won't stop as heavy snow does fall,

And there's a sharp chill in the air.

Still, people don't have to be rude,

Archimedes just wants to share,

Not remembering he is nude.

Archimedes is puzzled why

People wrapped in coats scurry by.

 Case of Misplace

Old Sherlock Holmes is now without

Dr. Watson who's dead and gone,

But has Watson, the mouse, no doubt

To help pal Sherlock carry on

Cases of missing this or that.

Sherlock and Watson want some cheese,

So are searching their habitat.

Sherlock is very ill at ease

To solve this case so they can eat.

So both search hard as time does pass.

Watson tries to keep him upbeat,

Holmes with his magnifying glass.

But Sherlock's getting more cranky,

Where oh where can his dentures be!

 Dust Storm

I was outside, first time in days.

The dust storm came and stuck around,

Force of nature that could amaze,

Left dust everywhere on the ground.

Awful hard on the family,

Mom and Dad and the kids upset.

Not much attention paid to me.

Longer the storm, the more they'd fret.

But finally the storm let up,

And all of us ventured outside.

I rolled in the dust like a pup.

This old dog takes it all in stride.

The worst dust storm I've ever known,

Doggone finding a buried bone.

 Reverie

Wifey and Hubby, both did be

Together in their living room,

Each having their own reverie,

A pleasant daydream with no gloom.

Then snapping out of state of bliss,

Wifey asks Hubby what he thought

At Walmart, so Hubby said this,

"On sale a lot of tools I bought,"

Then asks Wifey, how about her?

Wifey smiled, "Oh, I was in bed"

"With a hot guy and did occur"

"Best sex ever had," Wifey said.

Hubby asked, "Was it me, sweetheart?"

"No, honey, you were at Walmart."

 8th Deadly Sin

Pride and greed and wrath and envy,

Lust and gluttony and sloth, all

Seven of the deadly sins be

Around today from ancient call.

And each and all from time to time

I have been guilty, and so plead.

With them, without them, also I'm

Guilty of most often indeed

Being an untruthful one in

The words I do or do not say.

But unlike Pinocchio's sin,

My nose does not give me away.

To the seven deadly sins, I

Would add an 8th, it would be lie.

 Poe in Silence

"Silence," a sonnet written by

Edgar Allan Poe did portray

Joy or sorrow that can apply,

And different as night and day.

The sorrowful side of silence seemed

That which Poe identified with.

Stress of fame and riches he dreamed,

Poe felt in silence were just myth.

Silence was time Poe thought how bad

And not good his life had become,

So when in silence Poe felt sad,

Always often, never welcome.

Perhaps the silence his death brought

Gave Poe some joy his life had not.

 Take Your Time

To hear from you your love I yearned,

But if you say you love me not,

Indeed would be a truth that burned,

So such a truth should not be sought

By me until I know for sure

Your love for me is indeed true.

I wish these words from you occur,

And will just wait until they do.

When you are ready to speak of

The feeling that you have for me,

And should I hear that me you love,

Oh, the happiest I will be.

But while I wait I say indeed

Your silence is such a slow bleed.

 Curry Favor

Carrot, tomato, pepper be

Joined together in time and place.

Conversation between the three

Is about each making a case

Vitamin wise which one is best

For a human consumption choice,

To provide the most healthy zest.

Ears be hearing each veggie voice.

Then the mind, a decision made,

In a curry all three will go.

The three veggies by hands are laid,

For their destiny to bestow.

There is no more of veggie talk.

Silence comes on the chopping block.

 Asylum

She says she's living next to him.

By the him I guess she means me,

Because sometimes she calls me Jim.

She says it's just a game that she

Plays as the clown and fool for fun.

She thinks I'll have her sent sway

For lock up, but I'm not the one

Who in her game does want to play.

She screams at me that I am mad,

When she suffers an insane fit.

That I must bear her too bad

Our personality is split.

And then she went to far somehow.

We're both in the asylum now!

 Say "Cheese"

A class photograph being done

Of his third grade class, but no smile

Would show on the face of my son.

The photographer after while

Suggested that the class say "Cheese."

But my son had a tummy ache,

And feeling very ill at ease,

Had no stomach a smile to make.

But did make something else, do tell,

That everyone in the room could

Share with my son the awful smell

A knowing nose knows is not good.

So no "Cheese" by my son was said.

He cut cheese, passing gas instead.

 Crowning Achievement

The "No Kings" movement, U.S.A.,

Anti President Trump no doubt,

Hoping he will just go away,

The more they'd march, louder they'd shout.

President Trump did not reveal

How he was using "No Kings" to

Artfully work out his best deal

Before protesters even knew.

So came the time, end of Trump term

The "No Kings" movement stalled in gloom

As President Trump's deal went firm

In the White House's new ball room.

The "No Kings" movement marched and cursed,

Crowning of King Donald the First.
