 Best to Burn

I know you told me let it burn,

Throw bad memories in the fire,

Make a fresh start cuz it's my turn,

Say I love him, I'm a liar.

I know what you told me is true,

But he used to be so much fun,

No matter all the crap he'd do.

I thought he was my soulmate one.

I know you told me to get out,

And leave the pain of him behind.

But he would come find me no doubt.

I'm his property in his mind.

Burn bad memories, not the same,

As set the sleeping jerk aflame.

Mrs. Claus Sees Her Man Off

A wave with yell of "Ho, Ho, Ho,"

My Man once again on his way.

I kissed him under mistletoe,

And then he climbed into his sleigh,

Led by the reindeer and off to

Another world round trip to leave

Children their gifts, as he does do

Each and every Christmas Eve.

A cup of hot cocoa I sip,

As I once again watch my Man

Beginning his important trip.

He knows I am his biggest fan.

My Man is so special because

He's one and only Santa Claus.

 Honey Outing

Momma took me to a tree and

Told me to watch her as she got

Honey for me as she had planned.

She knew I liked honey a lot.

We both climbed up the tree part way.

Out on a limb the hive did be.

By the trunk, Momma said to stay,

That she'd bring the honey to me.

Then out on the limb Momma went.

A swarm of bees did buzz about,

But were unable to prevent

Momma taking the honey out.

Momma said I would hive hunt sure

When her bear cub grew thicker fur.

 A Shift to Remember

I caught him on my night patrol.

He had just dug up a grave of

Somebody buried, the poor soul,

I guess somebody he did love.

He sang to me a crazy song

As I was calling cops to tell

Of what he'd done that was so wrong,

This kook stuck in some kind of hell.

He sang digging up her bones be

His only way to be with her.

In tears he was singing to me.

It was a weird grave shift for sure.

The cops came and took him away,

Leaving her bones there where they lay.

 In Anticipation

It's Christmas Eve, I know that I

Should be fast asleep, but instead

I'm hiding in the tree to spy

For arrival of Jolly Red.

Look like an ornament I be

Listening for that rooftop tap.

These pine needles are poking me,

And I'm getting covered in sap.

Oh, I think now I hear the sound,

That well known greeting, "Ho, Ho, Ho."

Up there someone is downward bound,

And bringing goodies to bestow.

Down the chimney of this cat's house

Comes Santa, hope he brings my mouse.

 I Must

I am nocturnal and rely

Upon the glimmer of moonlight

For my nightly travel that I

Instinctively do with my flight.

But there's times the moon does not show,

And in that time any light will

Be a lure to which I must go,

A destiny I must fulfill.

Tonight, no moon but a campfire

Is what I see, and in my mind

There is a compelling desire

To approach, unknown what I'll find.

It's just my nature that I came,

A moth encircling the flame.

 Just Desserts

At a party, a dessert bar

Serving scrumptious ice cream and cake.

Of course the wife thought it bizarre

At all the trips there I would make.

The wife did not like desserts so

I expected harsh words from her

As for repeat trips I did go,

Knowing I'd hear her scorn for sure,

"That's the fifth trip that you have made."

"You should be so embarrassed by"

"Such gluttony." The wife's tirade

Bothered me not. I told her why,

"Embarrassing me, just not true,"

"Because I told them it's for you."

 Ozzy Came Home

Called Mama, the love of his life,

Ozzy sang a song that he be

Coming home to Sharon, his wife,

Coming home to his family.

He'd fought with the drug demons long,

But found in Mama's love the will

To sing at last his come home song,

A promise Ozzy would fulfill.

And so some golden years they shared

Until his weakened heart would fail.

A fan farewell concert was aired,

And Mama's song sung to avail.

Soon after the concert, Ozzy died,

Mama and family at his side.

 My Three Deaths

Since long ago it has been said

That each of us can expect to

At three separate times be dead,

A sentiment I believe true.

I will die first with my last breath,

When but a corpse my body be.

With burial comes second death,

When my body no one can see.

And then my final death and third

Is when all memories there were

Of me, no longer said and heard,

As though my life did not occur.

If any fame upon me fell,

I only hope I lived life well.

 Professors Pain and Pleasure

I flow with my river of life.

Two banks of pain and pleasure be

On each side, pain brings me strife,

Pleasure brings enjoyment to me.

I touch both banks, one at a time,

Sometimes by choice and sometimes not.

But when I reach each bank, then I'm

Sure that a lesson will be taught,

And taken with me as I flow

On down my river of life to

The next time either bank I'll go,

Another lesson to live through.

When lessons learned, I give measure,

Pain has taught me more than pleasure.

To be smashed for good luck galore.

At the home of the bride to be

Or bride's parents on ground outside.

All sorts ceramics, crockery,

And stoneware that guests have supplied

Are tossed  to break in pieces so

As to release for good luck goal

Often includes a toilet bowl.

 The Coconut Fights Back

For me to grow upon this tree

Took a lot of effort and toil.

Now some human jerk's wanting me

To crush me open for my oil,

Wanting to rub such on her skin,

Cuz of beauty and softness that

My oil has properties within

Desired by both skinny and fat.

For me it's a shell shocking thought

That I'm to suffer such a fate.

Let her have her way, I think not.

Her plan for me I must frustrate.

And so I drop, hitting her head.

We fall, she needs no oil, she's dead.

 Aces Up My Sleeve

I got home from poker quite late,

And of course Wifey was upset.

I heard an earful from my mate

On always losing when I bet,

Which was my cue to tell her pack

Her stuff and move to Herbert's house.

Then Wifey really blew her stack,

When told I bet her as my spouse,

When all of my money gave out.

Luck of the draw, Herbert won her.

Wifey was furious no doubt,

Even though I tried to assure,

"The hand I had," Wifey I told,

"Just four aces, so had to fold."

 Count Chocula

Hungry for a midnight snack, I

Went to the kitchen and found that

Above the table there did fly

A very large red eyed black bat.

Suddenly showed up a box of

Count Chocula cereal which

As a kid  I really did love

To eat, my recall did bewitch

Me to get a bowl, what the heck,

Opened the box, began to pour.

But then felt a bite on my neck.

And I collapsed onto the floor.

 Facelift

Depending on the day of week,

I assign a look for my face.

Mad, scared, puzzled, happy, I seek.

Bored, amused or sad I do place

To wear each particular day.

When not in use, other masks be

Hung upon a wall for display,

Until each is needed by me.

I collect each face mask with skill,

And wear it until it wears out.

For each replacement, I do kill

Someone with such a face, no doubt.

I see a happy face on you,

And so your facelift I will do.

 Grateful for Now

I only know what I know now.

I do not know what is ahead.

I do not know the when and how

I leave my life and join the dead.

This life began, this life will end.

Each day I try to live life well,

And I am helped by my best friend,

Always with me and I can tell

Jesus whatever's on my mind,

And on my heart and on my soul,

Knowing Jesus is true and kind,

And helps me keep good as my goal.

I know when on my deathbed be,

Jesus, my friend will be with me.

 Her Enigmatic Smile

Very often I told her of

Feeling Cupid's arrow striking me,

And causing me to fall in love

With her, and hearing this then she

Would smile at me in such a way

As to be puzzling for sure

As to what she meant to portray

In feeling truly felt by her.

Then one day we walked in the wood,

She said the two of us must part.

With bow and arrow, her shot was good,

Just like Cupid, into my heart.

Even dying, what did beguile

Me was her enigmatic smile.

I dislike, especially so

When by myself and must endure

All strangers by me I don't know.

Of course the slowest cashier be

In whatever line I do choose.

Find any reason to abuse

My patience, as all other lines

I watch do promptly move along,

But on me my line has designs

To make my stay so meanly wrong.

Waiting in line, ill fate has sewn

Me into hell and all alone.

 What If Romeo...?

Thinking that Juliet was dead,

Romeo started back to her,

But took a fall and hit his head,

Causing him amnesia for sure.

He ended up in Tuscany,

Wearing a funny yellow wig,

Looking like cornmeal mush so he

Is teased a lot, but starts a gig

As a woodcarver, skilled but poor.

Perhaps as puppeteer he could

Be happier with money more.

He finds the perfect piece of wood.

Past Romeo, now Geppetto,

 Thanks to Our Cult

A California cult we be

To save the state from the "big one."

That is our cult mentality,

And so far success has been done.

Along the San Andreas zone

All earthly possessions we throw,

Everything valuable we own,

Deep down into the earth cracks go.

And for so long as we do this,

Major earthquakes on this fault line

Have not occurred, a state of bliss,

Thanks to sacrifice to divine.

San Andreas god we exalt,

And are generous to a fault.

 Tradition at My Peril

Thanksgiving traditional meal

Has long included turkey, so

This year to make it seem more real

Off for a wild bird I did go,

Like those first Pilgrims must have done.

And so I trekked into the wood,

Aimed at a turkey with my gun,

Shot, but missed, and before I could

Fire again, that bird flew at me.

Shocked, I dropped the gun on the ground,

Which then caused its firing to be,

And hitting my leg with the round.

What's on the tray rattles my nerves,

Turkey meal the hospital serves.

 They Found Me

"Rafflesis hasseltii," I hear

An excited human voice yell,

Then see a group of them come near

My rainforest vined home, oh well,

They seem  a harmless human sort,

Long searching for one of my kind.

What the heck! I'll be a good sport

As they take pictures, I don't mind.

They happened to catch me in bloom,

Which about once a year I do.

Their shedding of tears I assume

Is that I am their dream come true.

Rotting meat smell, part of my fame,

So Corpse Flower is my nickname.

 Unneighborly

With a purple cap and green shades,

I noticed him when he moved in

The abandoned shack in my glades.

I took a liking to his skin.

So I waited till he came out

And got into his small rowboat.

In the water I came about,

Grabbed him sitting above, afloat.

A good neighbor I know I'm not,

And now this poor guy knows it too,

As he gave all his skin, a lot,

Very tasty, just as I knew.

This gator made a meal of him,

Took boat and cap and shades on whim.

 Chirp Peril

The chirping of crickets at night

In summer time is less and less.

Partly due to climate change plight

Killing crickets is the best guess.

But also  there's a theory that

Male crickets who do chirping most

To let females know where they're at

Have learned through time that such a boast

Also lets predators know where

They are at, so smart crickets let

Dumber ones chirp, and targets there

For incoming predator threat.

The smarter silent males then usurp

Females responding to dumb male's chirp.

For me if the brew was success.

Oh, such an outcome I did yearn,

But knew her promise was a lie.

So toadstools that I pointed out

Were of grave poisonous supply,

Able to kill a witch no doubt.

Our men told us we had to leave.

The enemy was marching to

Our camp and too soon we would grieve

For death the enemy would do.

So with our children and the old,

We climb into the mountains high

Where we will face hunger and cold,

And know that below our men die.

The enemy keeps coming on,

And forcing us to flee our home.

So many of us now are gone.

Few of us left, in despair roam.

 Pen or Sword

The sword was livid when it heard

The pen was mightier than it.

The sword loud thundered, "How absurd!"

"The pen is but a little twit,"

Then confronted the pen and gave

The pen a great swipe of its blade,

Missing, and then did rant and rave,

While a calmness the pen displayed.

In time humankind made the choice

Of selecting the pen and peace,

Ignoring the sword with loud voice,

And so in time the sword did cease.

Dead silence from the sword and then

It's just the whisper of the pen.
