 Late Makeup

I wake up and I cannot see.

For some reason all is so dark.

Then a feeling comes over me.

In my mind there's a question mark.

Did I forget my nightly chore?

And not make sure my face was clean?

Leaving makeup from day before?

Did I neglect normal routine?

I feel mascara and lipstick,

And foundation and powder too.

My face feels heavy like a brick.

Then felt the cushioned lid and knew.

I'm in a coffin, not a bed,

The makeup must be cuz I'm dead!

 Greedy Peeps

It be a family of Peeps,

The Yellow Easter Bunny clan,

Who on each Easter Day night keeps

A seance tradition with plan

To use the ouija board to bring

Back Gramma, who with her pearls got

Ate up by a kid, awful thing,

Cuz Gramma's pearls were worth a lot.

So each Easter the Peeps heirs try

To bring back Gramma's ghost and wear

Those pearls, so from the ghost's neck pry

Them off to sell and proceeds share.

Around them Gramma Peep's ghost whirls,

But, alas again, with no pearls.

 Lincoln Park Zoo

The city of Chicago life

Is time and place that's hard to find

Absence of any stress and strife.

But one time and place comes to mind,

Lincoln Park Zoo, wildlife for all,

A botanical garden and

An arboretum too, to call

Upon nature in acreage spanned,

To give a seeker of peace some

Of sights and sounds and smells to share

Of natural wonders brought from

Simply connecting with them there.

Lincoln Park Zoo, a time and place,

To find joyful peace to embrace.

 Sugared Up

"Pour some sugar on me," you sang

As being all your heart's desire,

That I make you the sweetest thang,

Turn your body as hot as fire.

You begged me do it in name of

All of the sweetness we could be,

If I would just pour sugar love

On you, we would share ecstasy.

This sugar line you've sang before

So many times, I've heard enough,

And I don't buy it anymore,

You singing the same tired old stuff.

So I poured some sugar on you,

To roast you in the barbeque.

Meeting of Right and Wrong and Me

Everybody said she was right

For me, and so I married her.

Though she was rich, she was real tight,

And for me not much fun for sure.

So then it wasn't very long

I began having an affair.

Of course I knew that this was wrong.

But so much fun we both did share.

This went on for a while till my

Wife followed me to the motel

Where my wife, my mistress and I

Turned my life into living hell.

When right found me with wrong woman,

Sure was a damper on my fun.

 I Can Relate to Tigger

"The Tigger Movie" on a whim

I watched the Disney film and I

To Tigger could relate to him.

Being buried in snow is why.

Out in a blizzard Tigger bounced,

And came upon a snow striped tree.

Upon him an avalanche pounced,

And such really happened to me.

And like Tigger, I was rescued

By friends who dug me out alright.

Back at the ski lodge we pursued

A wild party, lasting all night.

I can relate to Tigger cuz

Beneath an avalanche I was.

 Palm Sunday

Into Jerusalem He came,

Riding upon a donkey, He

Was now one of renown and fame

And returning triumphantly

To vast crowds who greeted Him with

The waving of branches of palm

To honor Him as more than myth,

But as a Prince of peace and calm.

It is written that He did weep

Just before He entered into

The city, knowing that He would keep

A destiny He'd vowed to do.

He knew He would be sacrificed

When Palm Sunday came Jesus Christ.

 The Number of the Beast

I cheated on the wife, of course

She caught me having the affair.

And so she sued me for divorce.

All the assets that we did share

In the property settlement,

I did get the shaft more or less

And she got 'bout ninety percent,

Plus alimony from me, yes.

To add insult to injury,

The court decree in fine print said

Court costs were payable by me,

And a hellish amount I read.

Six hundred sixty six bucks fee,

The devil in the details be.

 Rose

The love of my life, Rose, and I

Were in Colorado to ski.

Down a slope a race we did try.

And soon Rose was far behind me.

Then came an awful sight and sound.

Rose in an avalanche was caught.

I searched, but Rose could not be found.

Back at the ski lodge, help I sought.

I was not sure exactly where

Rose was when she had disappeared.

We searched for hours here and there

To no avail, the worst I feared.

But then we rescued Rose under snow,

Atop there a blooming rose did show.

 Longinus

A Roman soldier, I be one

Who helped nail Jesus to the Cross.

And when they ordered deed be done,

I did not feel any great loss.

We stripped His clothes, I took my share.

"King of the Jews" we wrote a sign,

Put on the Cross above Him there

To taunt the claim He be divine.

Though I be blind I thrust my spear

In piercing blow into His side

To assure myself in such jeer

That this proclaimed King really died.

His blood dripped in my eyes to see

Jesus Christ, believer I be.

 The Human

I am the cat he calls superb,

And so I let him stroke my fur.

But then he chats on to perturb

Me, by comparing me to her,

To his woman, her gaze and scent.

Amiable beast, he calls me.

His woman as such, has he meant?

If I were her, pissed off I'd be.

This human chatters on some more.

I hope this dude is about done.

Like most humans, he is a bore.

Before I scoot, I'll have some fun.

So I touch his hand with my paw,

And leave my reply with my claw.

A ways and means I believed could

Be a booze distiller for me,

Doing it quick, doing it good.

So during a storm, up I went

On the roof with the stuff I'd need,

And with some lightning I'd invent

A more efficient still indeed.

Then sure enough, some lightning struck,

And the liquid was ready for

Me to test, and with some good luck,

Safe success, my chugging galore.

Induction by me on the roof,

And I was right, 100 proof.

Weed and Willie (and some Whiskey)

Willie, I am oft asked about.

And Willie gives me credit for

Saving him from whiskey, no doubt

He used to drink whiskey galore.

But then he hooked up with me, and

Then illegal, I gave him joy,

Kept on giving through decades spanned.

I made a mellow Willie boy.

Now once in a while Willie still

Has a sip of whiskey indeed.

But I'm the go to to fulfill

The Willie high, now legal, weed.

Soon 92, Willie will be,

Party of two, Willie and me.

It is the time her eggs to lay.

 Best Time I Ever Had

In the U.S. Army, he went

To fight in the Korean War.

I turned five years old when he went.

We'd had many fun times before.

A year later came that sad day,

The army told us that he be

Missing in action, M.I.A.

And that was the worst time for me.

But then two years later came word

He had escaped and had been found

By friendly Koreans we heard.

And soon back to us he was bound.

Was the best time I ever had,

An M.I.A. now home, my Dad.

Remind me that they are in gobs.

Most of them old but some are new,

In varied color, shape and size.

I notice the blobs be by sight.

One looks like Jesus, no surprise.

Long time it's been around alright.

Sometimes I touch to get a feel

If a particular blob should

Be one I maybe should reveal

To Doc to check if bad or good.

My blobs do make my shower scene,

All soaped and rinsed, for now they're clean.

 From Mouth of Babe

My four year old grandson and I

Went to the park where he did play

In the sandbox, I am nearby.

It was my babysitting day.

He picked up his sand pail and came

Over to me, and on the ground

Set it, and asked I play a game

Of kick the pail, and he did sound

So serious, so I did ask

My grandson why he picked this choice

Of my doing such kicking task.

And he replied in a sure voice,

"We won't be poor, but rich instead,"

"When you kick the bucket, Dad said."

Just as I am, a sinner be,

But hope to find a way to live

So salvation will come to me,

And God have mercy will forgive.

Just as I am, I sometimes err

And be caught up in selfish greed,

Treating others with little care,

Some help to be better I need.

Just as I am, oft guilty of

Thinking and doing of abuse,

Allowing hate instead of love,

To be of bad and not good use.

Just as I am, Jesus I pray

Please come with me, help guide my way.

 Help to Heal

I grew up in a time and place

When illness of a mental kind

Was just a mood swing I could face

By mood altering of my mind

With substances of well known use,

The more the better be my thought,

Which led me to substance abuse,

Pain and suffering had a lot.

But sick of being sick at last,

I asked for help from those who could.

And I got better as time passed,

Some pain from gain but I felt good.

If helpless pain again I feel,

Then I will ask for help to heal.

 This Child in Church

Because Mom and Dad did not go

To church, I had never gone too.

Then Grandma came to visit so

She went to church and, yes, guess who

Was picked to go along with her.

Mom and Dad warned me to behave.

It was a boring time for sure.

The preacher yelled God would not save

Those of us who sinners did be

In trouble  making all hell bent.

And that preacher looked right at me.

Was the worst time I'd ever spent.

When we left church I thought, "Oh well"

"Guess I am back on track to hell."

 Inflation

An old lady sold pretzels on

The corner for a quarter each.

So each workday I'd come upon

Her, and in my pocket I'd reach

For a quarter and drop it in

Her cup, but no pretzel I'd take.

Years passed, one day I did begin

To drop in a quarter to make

My small gift, but the lady shook

Her  head in a negative way,

Giving me a very sad look,

Held up her cup, and then did say,

"Inflation never seems to cease,"

Pretzels now a dollar apiece."

 At the Queen's Request

Gloriana, the Fairy Queen,

Called upon her favorite fowl

To join her in her garden scene.

And so came Renaissance, the owl,

Who often the Queen asked to come

When the Queen would feel a great need

To make use of the owl's wisdom,

To better rule the Fae indeed.

In the garden under moonlight,

Amid the blooming flowers there,

The Queen sought the owl's great insight,

Which Renaissance was glad to share.

Queen Gloriana, wiser now,

Thanked Renaissance for his know how.

Approaching two hundred years old.

Came from Germany long ago

To the estate gardens to do

Bringing good luck as well as show.

But, alas, I'm the only one

Left of my comrades to survive,

To carry on my work and fun.

Please keep my secret, I'm alive.

By the end of that third film, I'm

Faded and ripe, but was Clint's call.

Never again a filming pair,

Clint continued but I retired,

So went through no more wear and tear,

Still hang with Clint as he desired.

Some good, some bad, some ugly, this

Poncho's still at Clint's home in bliss.

I know I pick a pecker good

Felt many storms that thundered by.

Man's fingerprinted me with fears

Of killing me, I don't know why.

But tree for all seasons, I still

Stand here and welcome birds like you

Tell others I am a friend true.

Each and all 'round my fingers curled

Until their use to me was gone.

Some husbands and fathers I took.

In the mirror, turned away I be,

Even I cannot look at me.

Two days later from an egg burst

Until their came a fatal stab.

This behavior is often done.

 The Swing

I remember back in grade school

At recess other kids would swing

On swings, but Momma had a rule

I was not to do such a thing.

Feeling sad, I asked Momma why,

And she told me my panties would

Show to the world when I swung high,

And for a young lady, not good.

So I figured a way to swing and

Not break Momma's strict rule, meanwhile

Sure that Momma would understand,

I told her 'bout it with a smile.

I remember Momma did scoff

When told I took my panties off.

In a big bang to begin all.

So many secrets in this seed

From life therefrom did become known,

As the Creator sensed the need

To give more knowledge to life sown.

Soon be drunk as pineapple planned.

Till the current fox hunt is done.

Until a calmness came about.

I could go home, I was so late.

I needed calmness from this strife

When I got home to face the wife.

 Money on My Mind

Love of money, the Bible tells,

Is the root of all evil in

Thinking of humankind that dwells,

Causing faith to give way to sin.

So I figure that if I hate

Money so much that I stay poor,

And in my life, suffer ill fate,

My chances should be all the more

That when I die I'll get to go

Straight to heaven which I tell all

I panhandle from, this I know.

But on deaf ears my words do fall.

Hate of money in me does dwell.

Why am I told to go to hell?

 Lolly Folly

A bag of lollies I did find

While I was walking home from school.

My eating them now, Mom would mind,

Because she had a quite strict rule,

No eating before dinner snack,

Especially a sugar one.

If Mom caught me, she'd give me flack,

Which I knew for sure was no fun.

I pondered what to do, and heard

My sugar tooth loud and clear say,

"Mom will never know what occurred,"

"If lollies eaten on the way."

Into my mouth went that whole bag,

Then causing me to lollygag.

 Monster No More

Children, don't go outside to play

When I the monster storm does blow

Thunder, lightning and rain today.

So stay in shelter till I go.

I'm never sure how long I'll be

A monster here to storm on you.

I know you children don't like me

For all the mean stuff that I do.

But Mother Nature gives a gift

To me, a lovely coat to wear.

And my bad mood begins to lift,

Disappearing into the air.

For when I put the rainbow on,

The monster in me is all gone.

 Cup of Me

The human lady of the house,

Having a ladies' fancy tea,

Always a good time for this mouse

To grab some cheese that there might be.

But in my search I'm aware that

One I love to hate is around.

Here comes the ever mean house cat.

Into a teacup I be bound,

Where I hide not making a peep

Until the cat's prowling is through.

In the meantime I fall asleep,

And dream the cat is a barbeque.

When the lady picks up the cup,

She's sure surprised when I pop up.

 My Diary

"Memory is the diary that"

"We all carry about with us,"

Said Oscar Wilde, so clever at

Making a point without surplus.

Oscar kept a diary indeed,

And liked to have it close at hand,

Ever sensational to read,

Which is something I understand.

I tend to fill my diary with

Happenings from my point of view,

Containing less truth and more myth

Of great matters I think and do.

Older I get, my memory

Is more like a misplaced diary.

 Reflection

Upon a water lily pad

I make a landing so that I

Might rest from the long flight I've had,

Then see another dragonfly,

Who must be resting as I do.

The lovely wings that look like mine,

In the same brightly rainbowed hue,

That in sunlight, brilliantly shine.

Since it's not mating season, I'm

Not upset to encounter one

Lovely as me in place and time,

As dawning on me had begun.

Lauding reflection I do be

On lovely reflection of me.

 My Favorite Meal

Fried chicken, corn flake battered style,

Mashed potatoes with gravy thick.

Favorite meal not had a while.

Steamed buttered peas, green veggie pick,

Wheat bread fresh from the oven baked,

Sweet iced tea with a lemon slice.

For such a meal, for long I ached.

And now served to me, oh so nice.

Then for dessert, fresh apple pie,

Atop with vanilla ice cream.

So filled with gratitude am I,

Enjoying now what was a dream.

Home from the war in Vietnam,

My favorite meal is cooked by Mom.

 Shape Shifter

For some reason unknown to me

Nature chose me to change my form

Into creature variety.

Some are cold blooded, some are warm.

Sometimes mammal, sometimes reptile,

And sometimes bird and sometimes fish.

And in each form I stay a while,

Make a change whenever I wish.

A favorite form have I found

From all the shapes that I have had?

To one  shape I always be bound,

When in the mood for doing bad.

The human shape that I am in

Is where I shift to commit sin.
