Sense Sonnet - Acher
Empty Sadness
On dusk she came and sat on me,
Watched world go by, bottle in hand.
There was no doubt, drunk she did be,
But knew that I did understand.
Then, she'd stretch out and spend the night.
Her snores and gagging cough I'd hear.
And next morning, at dawn first light,
To get more booze, she'd disappear.
For many days, this same routine.
I was her place to sleep it off.
The two of us were a sad scene,
The passersby would look and scoff.
With sun rising, they came today,
And took her dead body away.
