Sense Sonnet - Acher

No Dream

My Daddy told me not to talk
To any negro. But then I
Fell down while I was on my walk.
A negro man came driving by,
And was only trying to aid,
When Daddy and Uncle Jack came.
The negro man was real afraid.
I told Daddy there was no blame.
Dr. King on the radio
Did speak in Washington D.C.
As Daddy beat that poor negro.
Then they did hang him from a tree.

All I could do was watch and scream,
Drowning out words, "I have a dream..."
