Tyrian purple I was named

For Tyre in Lebanon where I

Was first made and did become famed

As most valued color supply.

I was associated with

Wealth and power of church and state,

Donned by folks who in fact and myth

Wore me for better or worse fate.

Prized because my color did not

Easily fade and turned more bright

As the elite wore me a lot

Through all weathering and sunlight.

Not widely known is one detail,

I was made, thanks to a sea snail.
