Pelican Legend
Legend has it pelicans do
Use beak to open up our chest,
Running blood of the wounds used to
Feed the young offspring in the nest.
As a Mom I stuff in my beak
All the fish a pelican can
With beak against my chest I seek
For my young'uns a feeding plan
To have all my chicks close 'round me,
And push in each beak a fish share.
Often my chicks excited be,
And peck small wounds in my chest there.
But peck myself for blood to feed
Is just a human myth indeed.
