The reason baby Jesus and

Mary and Joseph were saved from

Some Roman soldiers who had planned

Them harm, sight of me was welcome.

I beckoned them to me and I'd

Bent 'round the three my branches so

Baby Jesus and folks could hide.

Then soon the soldiers off did go.

Mary gave blessings to this tree,

And now all year, green I do be.
