 Cold Truth

The U.S.  Civil War, both sides,

Maintain righteousness in God's name,

And quote Scripture in bona fides.

The other side's wrong and is to blame.

I joined the side I live and love,

And for three years I fought through hell,

Just kept praying to God above

That back with Ida I would dwell.

No matter how this war came out,

God knows that all of us have lost,

And never will regain no doubt.

Ida and I will bear such cost.

Thank God beloved Ida's nearby,

And holding me close as I die.
