"That Bird"

That bird that had a song to sing,

You ask if that bird is still here?

Or did that bird go on the wing,

And now so far when once so near?

That bird did have a lovely song,

With something important to say,

Singing forth loud and clear and strong.

Wanting to sing to you today,

That bird this morning started to

Sing just outside your window, and

Was singing so sweet for you,

When tragedy struck me unplanned. 

That bird, I am now dead, no doubt,

Because you let your darn cat out.
