Sense Sonnet - Tickler

 The Irish in Me

While I am sitting on a bus,

Two people are talking about

The alcoholism in us

Because we are Irish no doubt.

Being Irish, I'm sick and tired

Of being stereotyped as

A drunk, a trait that's not desired,

And during my life often has

Been an unwelcome thing to hear

From folks who don't even know me,

But have the compulsion to smear

Irish who I happen to be.

I'm gonna tell them what I think

As soon as I finish my drink.
