Sense Sonnet - Steamer
Amethyst
Greek god of wine, Bacchus, did love
A lovely maiden, Amethyst,
Who feared for her chastity of
Bacchus' intent that did persist.
To Diana, goddess of chaste,
She prayed and was turned into stone
Of white, so Bacchus could not taste
Her charms and would leave her alone.
In humility or in spite,
Bacchus poured on this stone his wine,
Turned color to purple from white,
And ever so this stone would shine.
Diana let this hue change go,
Bacchus was her drunken half bro.
