Sense Sonnet - Pumper

Off with the Old, On with the New

I am a snake with skin to shed,
Replacing all the old with new,
Peeling back the skin from my head
To my tail in one piece I do,
Like a sock pulled off inside out,
With new brighter skin below,
Feel rejuvenated - no doubt!
Leave the old skin and off I go.
When I was younger, shedding be
Four or five times a year - felt nice.
But now an older snake is me,
Each year I shed just once or twice.

Don't bother me in my shed zone.
It's time I'd rather be alone.
