Sense Sonnet - Pumper

Home of the Brave

There is a place called Arlington.
It was the home of General Lee.
Before the Civil War was done,
Lee's wife and children had to flee.
Before she left her home for good,
Mrs. Lee wrote and left a plea
To Union troops that shortly would
Have Arlington at their mercy.
She asked that the house not be burned,
Even though it was caught in war.
In peacetime, let the house be turned
Into a haven evermore.

Arlington, in place and in name,
Shelters freedom's eternal flame.
