Sense Sonnet - Acher

Hard to Realize

They think that I'm too old to drive,
That at eighty four, I'm past tense.
Most of them weren't even alive
When I got driving compliments.
I took the driving tests last year,
Passed, and got my license renewed.
My driving record's free and clear.
No way am I coming unglued.
I'm getting old - but that's no sin.
Why are there police all around,
And paramedics rushing in?
And who's that lying on the ground?

I hear them say I hit a kid.
Oh God, I can't believe I did.
