Sense Sonnet - Acher

 What Was, Still Is

We carved initials long ago

In a tree under which we'd sit.

The city park was where we'd go.

This tree gave shade on hot sunlit

Days, as the two of us dreamed of

Living from youth to older day,

Always together, sharing love.

And it all has happened that way.

Then, we heard that the city would

Cut down our tree to make room for

Buildings, so we did what we could,

Well worth to us the cost of chore.

Now in our back yard this tree be,

And given back to you and me.
