Sense Sonnet - Steamer

 Edward VII

Edward the seventh, I became

Britain's king after Mother died.

Until then, Bertie was my name,

Not one in which Mother took pride.

I had become a playboy through

The quite long Victorian reign.

At Mother's death I wasn't too

Ready to be next in the chain.

As the coronation did near,

I got a painful tummy ache.

Thought maybe just jittery fear,

But then a worse turn I did take.

An appendectomy just had,

At coronation I felt bad.
