Sense Sonnet - Pumper

 Jim

Jim, runaway slave, did befriend

Young Huckleberry Finn and they

On the Mississippi had to fend

Off prejudices night and day.

The "N" word is how Huck refers

To Jim as norm in time and place.

But Huck, in spite of all his slurs,

Came to put bond ahead of race.

Huck learns from unschooled Jim a lot

Of honor, trust and loyalty.

Better understanding Huck got,

And in the end, slave Jim got free.

This story written by Mark Twain

Showed racial prejudice real plain.
