Sense Sonnet - Pumper
Good Luck Charm
Saint Dunstan, blacksmith patron saint,
In Ireland centuries ago
Did have occasion to acquaint
With bad luck - the devil did show.
The devil had a hoof in need
Of a shoe to cover the bare.
So Saint Dunstan did do the deed
Of nailing a hot horseshoe there.
The devil in great pain did squeal
"Take it off, I'll never return."
Saint Dunstan agreed to the deal.
The devil left with his hoof burn.
Since then a hung horseshoe does say,
"Devil - you better keep away."
