Sense Sonnet - Acher

An Ending Reign

The monarch butterfly does fly
Three thousand miles or more each year.
North and south, back and forth the sky
Fills spring and fall as they appear.
But less and less of them are seen.
Climate change and habitat loss,
Two reasons that do intervene
To cause a fatal double cross.
Only one plant the monarchs eat,
The milkweed is under attack
By manmade toxins that excrete
Poisons and monarchs don't come back.

Monarch butterflies may soon be
Only a lovely memory.
