Chicago did become a town
In August 1833.
About 200 folks were roun'
To say Chicagoans they be.
In 1837 then
The town became all citified.
Billy Ogden was picked to win
First city mayor bona fide.
For several decades then on,
The fastest growing city - yes!
The age of Chicago did dawn.
Winds of prosperity did bless.

But then wheels of fortune did turn.
The Great Chicago fire did burn.
