There is the turkey that's the bird.
There is the nation, Turkey, too.
Does English language of same word
Have any reason why to do?
No rhyme nor reason that makes sense.
The Portuguese could get most blame,
Who kept their trade routes secret - hence
Confusing English with goods' name.
So the birds that the English got
Were called turkeys just for ease sake,
Whether from Turkey, whether not.
What mattered was how long to bake.

Would say so quite differently.
