Sense Sonnet - Pumper

Dorando's Run

The Olympics - 1908.
First won, then lost the marathon,
'Twas Dorando Pietri's fate.
Kept falling down, umps helped him on,
So he crossed the finish line first.
The London crowd did cheer for him,
But the came in second loudly cursed.
Disqualified, his joy turned grim,
But others touted him to fame.
Irving Berlin wrote him a song-
The world to sing "Dorando's" name,
Olympian of spirit strong.

A. Conan Doyle helped Pietri
Open a home town bakery.
