Sense Sonnet - Steamer

Relative

Puerto Rico, an afterthought,
Not quite a nephew of Uncle Sam,
I am accustomed to my lot.
Powers that be don't give a damn,
Except when it's election time
For the U.S.A. president,
When hispanic votes will be prime,
Suddenly, I am relevant.
For president I cannot vote,
But have close ties to cousin states.
So candidates come and emote
Bull to help their elective fates.

Every four years here they come.
They must think that I'm really dumb.
