Sense Sonnet - Steamer

Public Good Gone Bad

Chicago's Mayer Daley did
Lease the parking meters out to
Private enterprise with no bid.
Taxpaying parkers got the screw.
The parking rates jumped high and fast.
The new meters malfunction oft
In winter ice, then there's a blast
Of ticketers' anger aloft.
There was no chance for tax relief.
The lease largesse just disappeared,
Not taken by a common thief,
But by Daley's machine, high geared.

Chicago would if Daley could
Sell off all of the public good.
