Sense Sonnet - Acher

Veterans Served and Stayed

11th day and month of year
1918 of World War I
The Allies had reason to cheer -
Victory and a war was done.
Americans were welcomed home,
But thousands could not journey back,
Buried beneath the foreign loam,
Killed for freedom under attack.
To be the war to end all war,
It turned out not to be the fate.
Americans die many more
For us before it is too late.

Around the world in land and sea,
Remains of those who died for me.
