Sense Sonnet - Steamer

Your Name Please

At the close of the Civil War,
Robert E. Lee was sought to be
On an insurance firm's top floor,
Serving in the presidency.
Fifty thousand dollars a year
Was what the firm offered to pay.
Lee wasn't sure how his career
Merited payment in this way.
The firm assured the general that
His name was worth that much and more.
The buying public would grab at
The general's name on their front door.

Their sales pitch was to no avail.
Lee said, "My name is not for sale."
