Sense Sonnet - Acher

Loss of a Child

Our hopes for a child came true.
The agency said all was done,
That the adoption had gone through,
And we brought home, Sean, our son.
All was going so very well;
Then, Sean's biological dad
Popped up, and our lives went to hell.
A court fight was the choice we had.
Sean stayed in our custody.
The court case continued for years.
We had high hopes for victory.
But finally, those hopes were fears.

The court fight turned out for the worst.
We should have let Sean go at first.
