Sense Sonnet - Acher

Falling Bridge

We were on our way to the game.
It was a family event.
A summer outing was the aim
To watch the Twins winning intent,
Halfway across the Mississip,
The bridge began to make strange sounds.
Countless times, we'd driven this trip,
Minneapolis' main inbounds.
The pavement underneath gave way,
And opened up. The car fell through.
There was no time, even to pray.
Then all went black, and silent too.

The rescuers saved me, half drowned.
My family was never found.
