Sense Sonnet - Acher

Wake of Prejudice

I wake up to a painful day,
Feeling scared that I'm all alone;
And somehow have to make my way
Through the hatred that's all I've known.
If only I could change, I would.
But, I must stay the way I am.
My pretending could do no good.
The truth would not be worth a damn.
The one escape is when I sleep.
It's then that I can dream away
The hurt. But, then I have to keep
Waking up to a painful day.

It is for me a fearful fate,
To wake up in my world of hate.
