Sense Sonnet - Acher

Wrong of Protest

He was only twenty years old,
Killed by enemy mortar fire.
He was good, with a heart of gold,
And zest for life that would not tire.
He felt that he was duty bound
To serve the good ol' U.S.A.
He did so on the battleground,
Bravely fighting for freedom's way.
There are those who oppose the war.
That is their right, for which he died.
But some are rotten to the core,
Coming to gloat at his graveside.

I hear their cheers one after one,
As I bury my only son.
