Sense Sonnet - Acher
Re"symbol"ed
He gave me to her long ago,
And swore I was a symbol of,
As wearing me, she'd always know,
His faithful forever true love.
But on their fateful wedding day,
He left her at the altar and
With another did run away.
But I remained still on her hand,
As then a recluse spinster she
Became and rarely her home leave.
The many years passed, she kept me
A symbol now of why to grieve.
So far I've not had to reveal
My diamond setting is not real.
