Sense Sonnet - Acher
Lasting Look
"I like the look of Agony,"
Emily Dickinson did pen,
Because she felt such look to be
A truth not pretended by men.
George Gould, a man Emily knew
And loved, and at age of 19,
Emily became engaged to.
But her father, she deemed quite mean,
Cancelled her plans, and proved her case,
When George was told this news indeed,
Look of agony on his face,
That their marriage would not proceed.
Maybe that look of Agony led
To Emily never getting wed.
