Sense Sonnet - Pumper
Dead
In Deadwood, South Dakota, I
Am in the saloon all alone,
Drinking a Grateful Dead with rye.
I deal a poker hand that's shown
As aces and eights I gave fame,
And called the dead man's hand it is,
When bad guy Jack McCall took aim,
And shot me in the back, gee whiz.
On the jukebox "Dead Disco' plays,
But there's no one around to dance.
Like me, this sound had better days,
But was fated by happenstance.
Still of me be written and said,
And Wild Bill Hickok still lives dead.
