Sense Sonnet - Acher

 The Invader

I enlisted, was sent away

To fight the war on foreign land,

So homeland of the U.S.A.

Of foes invading might withstand.

Away I fought the enemy,

I, invader in time and place.

How right or wrong my cause might be.

I found myself come face to face,

And shot and killed in the home of

The foe, and last thought on my mind,

Not knowing would be ones I love

That my nation left me behind.

My whereabouts be never known,

Buried forever and alone.
