Sense Sonnet - Steamer
Artful Revenge
Young and talented painter, she
Was raped by older men who knew
They'd be spared by powers that be,
Also all men, though charge be true,
In Court her body was laid bare,
So that men might examine her.
Truth, the men really did not care.
Her charge meant she must bear torture.
And of course her rapists were spared,
Slap of the wrists and never slapped,
Scorn against the young girl who dared
Cause the old men to be entrapped.
Rest of her life she painted men,
Vessels of evil and of sin.
