Sense Sonnet - Acher

 "The Man Who Laughs"

I am "The Man Who Laughs," Gwynplaine,

My mouth disfigured by one vile,

For the king's favor to attain,

Leaving me with a freakish smile.

I fell in love with Dea, blind,

Who loves me back, and we do share

All together heart, soul and mind,

Bonded by fate, a loving pair.

Powers that be pull us apart.

I find the courage to make way,

And return to my Dea's heart.

And from past ills we sail away.

This man who laughs is free at last

To love and put hate in the past.
