Sense Sonnet - Tickler

Bird Debate

The bald eagle, I did become,
The year 1782,
The U.S. national emblem,
A big congressional to do.
But old Ben Franklin was not glad,
Said I was a lazy mean bird.
My moral character was bad.
For me Ben had not a nice word.
He thought the turkey was the pick,
An emblem for the brave and free.
The idea was deemed lunatic,
And Congress voted yes on me.

Glad I escaped the turkey fate.
On Thanksgiving I don't get ate.
