"No day shall erase," Virgil said,
"You from the memory of time."
A quote commemorating dead,
Day of the 9/11 crime.
The Aeneid poem is where this line
Is taken from, out of context,
Of loathsome soldiers by design.
So use of this quote has quite vexed.
Defenders say the words are for
The victims of that killing day.
But why use these words, when be more -
Far better words Virgil might say?

When Virgil died, it then was learned
He wished the Aeneid  to be burned.
