Sense Sonnet - Pumper

Philip Reid

Philip Reid - remember that name,
A slave in Washington D.C.
His master chose him. He became
A caster of freedom to be.
Eighteen sixty three was the year.
The Statue of Freedom was placed
Atop the Capitol dome tier
By slaves. It was them she first faced.
Reid supervised that slave event,
With mind and body, heart and soul.
He could not be sure what it meant,
But he was proud he had a role.

An end to slavery began.
Philip Reid was his own free man.
